Introduction

Overview

Matthew 19:1, Christ heals the sick; Matthew 19:3, answers the Pharisees concerning divorcement; Matthew 19:10, shows when marriage is necessary; Matthew 19:13, receives little children; Matthew 19:16, instructs the young man how to attain eternal life; Matthew 19:20, and how to be perfect; Matthew 19:23, tells his disciples how hard it is for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God; Matthew 19:27, and promises reward to those that forsake anything to follow him.

he departed: This was our Lord's final departure from Galilee, previous to his crucifixion; but he appears to have taken in a large compass in his journey, and passed through the districts east of Jordan. Some learned men, however, are of opinion, that instead of "beyond Jordan," we should render, "by the side of Jordan," as נוסבם [Strong's G4008], especially with a genitive, sometimes signifies.
