Numbers 16

Everett's Study Notes on the Holy ScripturesEverett's Study Notes

Verses 1-50

Numbers 16:1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

Numbers 16:1 “Korah” - Comments - According to Exodus 6:16-24, Korah was a first cousin of Moses. Their fathers, Izhar and Amram, were brothers. It can be our closest kin in life that rise up against us, because they tend to see us only in the flesh, not as God sees us.

Numbers 16:5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Numbers 16:5 “Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his” - Scripture References - Note:

2 Timothy 2:19, “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his . And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

Numbers 16:11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

Numbers 16:11 Comments - Murmuring is the early stages of rebellion against God. It is an expression of discontentment within the heart.

Numbers 16:27-32 Comments - The Lord Judges Korah - Note that the Lord did not destroy the children of Korah (Numbers 26:11).

Numbers 26:11, “Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not.”

The epistle of Jude refers to the destruction of Korah (Jude 1:11).

Jude 1:11, “Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core .”
