Everett's Study Notes on the Holy ScripturesEverett's Study Notes

Verses 1-17

Ezra 5:1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

Ezra 5:1 Comments - Haggai prophesied in the sixth (Haggai 1:1; Haggai 1:15), seventh, (Haggai 2:1) and ninth (Haggai 2:10) months of the second year of King Darius. Zechariah prophesied in the eighth (Zechariah 1:1) and eleventh (Zechariah 1:7) months of the second year of Darius and in the ninth month of his fourth year (Zechariah 7:1). These prophecies are recorded in the Old Testament books of Haggai and Zechariah.

Ezra 5:2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

Ezra 5:2 “helping them” Scripture References - Note:

Ecclesiastes 12:11, “The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.”

Ezra 5:2 Comments - Now they begin building by faith, and not by sight, or circumstances.
