Verse 20

Mark 6:20

h e did many things -- The preferred reading is “he was very perplexed,” which indicates that Herod’s interaction with John left him in great internal conflict—a moral struggle between his lust for Herodias and the prodding of his guilty conscience. MASB

The perplexity the king felt undoubtedly arose over his conflicting affections for Herodias and John. - Tom Constable’s Expository Notes on the Bible

he did many things -- The Cambridge commentary by Maclear understands that Herod may have repented and changed some aspects of his life because of John’s preaching "but listened gladly; nay more, he “did many things;” many things, but not “the thing.” He would not put away his unlawful wife."- Maclear, G. F. (1893). The Gospel according to St Mark, with Maps, Notes and Introduction (p. 73). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.

he did many things -- KJV, see other translations, "he was very perplexed" or "disturbed". This is not a reference that John did miracles, for we are explicitly told John did not miracles. John 10:41
