Verses 1-24

  1. A DAY OF SACRIFICING! (9:1-21)
    1. Sacrificing! – Read vs.1-4
    2. (1-14) was the Priests offerings.
    3. (15-21) was the Peoples offerings.
    4. We don’t sacrifice animal’s today, but we do have our own sacrifices.
      1. Our Bodies - Rom.12:1,2.
      2. The Praise of our lips - Heb.13:15.
      3. The Good Works we do for others - Heb.13:16.
      4. The Money &Material things we share w/others – Phil.4:10-20(esp.18).
      5. Even the people we win to Christ are sacrifices for His Glory – Rom.15:16.
  2. AARON’S BLESSINGS! (9:22-23a)
    1. ​​​​​​​2 BLESSINGS! (22,23a)
      1. One of the privileges of the high priest was that of blessing the people.
        1. His 1st day he gives 2. – (1 alone, 1 w/Moses)
        2. A Benediction (bene/well – dicere/speak) - An invocation of blessing.
      2. 1st blessing most likely Numb.6:22-27.
        1. It was after the sacrifices reminding us “all blessings come because of the finished work of the sacrifice of the cross.
      3. 2nd blessing was when the came out of the tabernacle of meeting.
        1. Showing we must be in fellowship w/God & one another if we’re to be a blessing to others.
  3. GOD’S ACCEPTING! (9:23b-24)
    1. ​​​​​​​GLORY APPEARING! (23b)
      1. The glory of the Lord appeared – which is the purpose of the sacrifice & service.
    2. God’s glory had appeared:
      1. 1] When Moses finished the Tabernacle.
      2. 2] His glory left the tabernacle in 1 Sam. 4:21 because of the sin of the people.
        1. “She(Phinehas' wife) named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" because the ark of God had been.”
      3. 3] It later appeared when Solomon dedicated the Temple.
      4. 4] It later left when Ezekiel watched it depart because the nation was so sinful. (Ez.8:4; 9:3; 10:4,18; 11:22,23)
        1. Ez.9:3 “Now the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub,”
      5. 5] It later appeared when Jesus was born Lk.2:8,9 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.”
        1. It also tabernacled with him Jn.1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt(tabernacled) among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
      6. 6] Today His glory dwells in the bodies of his people!
        1. 1 Cor.6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God,”
        2. [6a] Also, to the local assemblies (Corinth) – 1 Cor.3:16,17.
        3. [6b] The church collectively Eph.2:19-22
        4. [6c] 1 day the light in the heavenly city Rev.21:22,23.
    3. Q: Can people say of our worship, “God is truly among you?”
      1. 1 Cor.14:24,25 “But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.”
  4. FIRE CONSUMING! (24a)
    1. Assurance He was there among them & with them.
    2. He is a consuming fire!
      1. He could have consumed the people instead!
      2. Reminding us of the wrath of God that fell upon His Son, rather than on us
  5. PEOPLE RESPONDING! (24b)
    1. Paradoxical response:
      1. (NIV) “they shouted for joy and fell facedown.”
    2. Q: How should I come before the Lord to worship?
    3. Q: Should I come w/fear or Joy?
      1. Both! - Joyful & overwhelmed!
      2. Ps.2:11 “Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.”
      3. These are 2 attitudes that should balance each other!
  6. Wrap up:
    1. Our lives should be lived like priests in a temple!
      1. Each was expected to be holy.
      2. Each had their own jobs to perform.
      3. Each had to work together w/the other priests.

Verses 1-24
