Jdg JUDGES. THE STRUCTURE OF THE BOOK AS A WHOLE. TITLE, Judges. The Heb. name is Shophetim = rulers;from verb to put right and then rule. Not Judges, as modern English. For origin and description of name, cp. Judges 2:7-19 . In Sept. = kritai ;Latin, Liber Judicum. The office peculiar to Israel.
