Contextual Overview

¹ Then all the people of Iudah tooke Vzziah, which was sixteene yeere olde, and made him King in the steade of his father Amaziah. ¹All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. ¹ All the people of Yehudah took `Uzziyah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amatzyah. ¹ Then the people of Judah chose Uzziah to be the new king in place of Amaziah. Amaziah was Uzziah's father. Uzziah was 16 years old when he became king. ¹ And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. ¹Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. ¹ And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. ¹After the death of King Amaziah, the people of Judah crowned his son Uzziah king, even though he was only sixteen at the time. Uzziah ruled fifty-two years from Jerusalem, the hometown of his mother Jecoliah. During his rule, he recaptured and rebuilt the town of Elath. ¹ Meanwhile, all the people of Y'hudah had taken ‘Uziyahu at the age of sixteen and made him king in place of his father Amatzyahu. ¹ And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate,.... Which was broken down by the king of Israel in his father's time, 2 Chronicles 25:23 and which he not only repaired, but strengthened, by building a tower upon it:

and at the valley gate; which led to the valley, Nehemiah 2:13, called the valley of the dead bodies, in which they were cast, and in which the brook Kidron ran, Jeremiah 31:40

and at the turning of the wall; at each of those places he built towers, which Josephus o says were one hundred and fifty cubits high: and fortified them; put garrisons of soldiers into them.
