Contextual Overview
1Then Jesus left and rode off to the region along Jordan Creek. Once again, the crowds of people found him and he taught them about riding for God's outfit.
2Some of the bigwig preachers showed their ugly hides and tried to throw a heel trap at him and get him to say something wrong. They asked him, "Is it right for a cowboy to divorce his wife?"
3Jesus turned it back on 'em and said, "What did Moses have to say about it?"
4They puffed out their chests as they began to show off their scripture knowledge. "Moses said it was fine. All a cowboy has to do is give her a paper that says they are divorced."
5But Jesus was already shaking his head. "Yeah, he said that, but only because you are weak and don't understand nothin'.
6From the beginning, God made cowboys and cowgirls.
7It's because of this that a cowboy will leave his own parents and unite with a cowgirl and the
8two will become one. In God's eyes, they are one person.
9And what God has joined together, what right has anyone else to come and try to sort off one?"
10Later on in the house, the cowboys asked Jesus about what he'd said.

whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another; when there is no uncleanness in the case; when his former wile has not injured him by violating the marriage bed:
committeth adultery against her; to the injury of his lawful wife; or "upon her", or "with her", with the person he marries. The Syriac and Persic versions leave out the phrase, "against her".

And if a woman shall put away her husband - It would seem, from this, that a woman, among the Jews, had the power of separating herself from her husband, yet this right is not given her by the law of Moses. There is not, however, any positive evidence that females often claimed or exercised this right. Cases had occurred, indeed, in which it had been done. The wife of Herod had rejected her former husband and married Herod. And though instances of this kind âmightâ have been attempted to be defended by the example of Pagans, yet our Saviour was desirous of showing them that it did not free them from the charge of adultery. The apostles were going forth to teach Pagan nations, and it was proper for Christ to teach them how to act in such cases, and to show them that they were cases of real adultery.
