Simplified Cowboy Version

Hebrews 5

1 Every trail guide who's ever been was a man chosen to lead the cowboys to God. A trail guide offers God all his sacrifices as gifts for his mistakes. 2 But a trail guide needs to be understanding of the hardships of the trail because he followed the same one. 3 The trail guides before had to offer their own sacrifices for the mistakes they made as well.

4 No one can be a trail guide because he wants the notoriety. He must be called by God just like Aaron was. 5 Jesus didn't even ask to be the trail guide. He was chosen by God himself when he said, "You are my boy. Today, I have become your Dad."

6 Another time God said, "You are the last trail guide. You'll finish what Melchizedek started."

7 While Jesus still rode on this earth, he offered up tears and groans to the only one who could rescue him from the outlaw called death. And because of his faithfulness, God listened. 8 But just because he was God's Son, Jesus still learned what it meant to obey God. He didn't learn obedience through anything more than the hard trail he rode. 9 Because of this, God made him the last trail guide. The trail Jesus forged became the way to heaven for all those who ride with him. 10 God made him the last trail guide on the trail that Melchizedek started.

Don't Fall Off

11 Now there's a whole bunch left to say on this subject, but I'll let it go for now. It's hard to explain and some of y'all are still greenhorns. Not because you don't know how to ride, but because you don't know how to listen or believe. 12 You've been riding long enough now you should be teaching others how to, but you still need us to tell you to keep your butt down, toes out, and your head up. We shouldn't have to be telling y'all this over and over. This is basic stuff on riding for God. 13 If you ain't got out of the round pen yet, you don't know how to take on the tough trails of a ride with God. 14 Taking the outside in God's gathering is only for top hands, who've given God everything and ride for him every stinkin' day.
