Hebrews 3

Jesus Is More Than Moses

1 And since Jesus is our ramrod in heaven and God's own messenger, we must acknowledge who he really is. 2 Jesus is the key to everything. He was faithful in everything God told him to do. Moses also did what God told him to, 3 but Jesus deserves much more credit. The horse trainer is worth more than the horse. 4 The trainer can make more, and the one who made everything is God.

5 Moses was most certainly a top hand for God. His work showed what God would do in the future. He took good care of God's outfit for a while. 6 But Christ, the Son of God, is in charge of God's outfit for all time. We are God's outfit if we stay brave and stay confident in our hope of what Jesus did for us.

7 The Holy Ghost says to us, "Don't turn a deaf ear to God's word. 8 Don't let your hearts turn to stone like Israel did when they turned their backs on me in the wilderness. 9 Your granddaddies tested and tried me. They saw miracle after miracle for forty years, but still looked the other way. 10 So, I got mad at them and said, 'Their hearts have forgotten me. They refuse to ride for me like I told them to.' 11 That's when I decided 'They won't come through the gate to get rest or grub from my table.'"

12 So, watch out for yourselves, cowboys. Make sure your hearts are not turning away from God and the way he told you to ride. 13 Open your eyes and help each other. Don't let one another be deceived by sin and turn away from God. 14 If we can stay in the saddle until our ride is over, believing and trusting in God the way we did at first, we will share in all the things that belong to Jesus. 15 Don't forget it has been said, "Today is the day you ride for him and listen to his voice. Don't harden your hearts and become rebels like Israel did long ago."

16 Think about it. Who was it who turned their backs on God even though they clearly heard his voice? It was the very people Moses gathered up out of Egypt. 17 And wasn't it them who made God mad those forty years in the wilderness? It was these sinners whose bodies still lay in the desert. 18 Who do you think God was talking about when he said they wouldn't come through his gate for rest or grub? It was the people who refused to ride for him and chose to ride for themselves. 19 It was this choice they made for themselves that kept them from God, his rest, and his grub.
