Hebrews 1

Jesus: The Word and Son of God

1 In the old days, God used to speak to us through cowboys who were called prophets. 2 But now God has chosen to speak directly to us through his Son, who he has given all things and all authority to. It is also through his Son that all the universe was formed. 3 The Son is the visible sight of God. He is the nature and character of God himself and through him everything is sustained by the power of his Word. When the Son had erased our tally book of sin, he sat down at the right hand of God in heaven. 4 This makes him far above any angel and his name is greater than all their names combined.

The Angels Don't Hold a Candle to Jesus

5 God never said to any angel the things he said to Jesus, "You are my son and today I have become your Father."

Again, God said, "I will be his Daddy and he will be my Son."

6 And when he'd brought his firstborn Son into the world, he said, "All my angels will bow down and worship him."

7 And speaking of angels, he said, "He sends his angels on the winds; his servants are like the flames of fire."

8 But when speaking of his Son he says, "Your throne will last forever. With justice you rule. 9 You love justice and deplore evil. God, your God, has lifted you higher than all others and anointed you with the oil of pure joy."

10 He also says, "You laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens are your handiwork. 11 Even though all of these will fall, you will be forever. They will eventually wear out like old britches. 12 You will fold them and throw them away for the old things they are, but you will always be the same, forever and ever."

13 God never said to the angels, "Sit at my right hand and take up the honor that is yours. Sit here until I conquer your enemies and make them a bench to rest your feet upon."

14 That's why I'm telling you angels are just day hands in the kingdom of Heaven compared to Jesus. They are sent here and there to tend the herd until they inherit eternal life.
