Simplified Cowboy Version

1 Peter 1

1 Howdy, boys! It's me, Pete, a ramrod in the outfit of Jesus Christ.

I'm sending out this message to all the day trash who were driven out and scattered across the mountains and the prairies. 2 God planned all along to make y'all his cowboys, his holy people, which is the work of the Holy Ghost. God wanted y'all to ride for him and him alone and to be washed in the blood of his Son's sacrifice.

May your ride with God be filled with grace and peace.

A New Ride of Hope

3 God is good, cowboys. God's mercy gave us something to hold on to that won't ever let go of us. This is the new life we've been given. It's full of hope and wonder through Jesus's ride back from death. 4 Now we are just waiting to receive the full amount of blessings God has promised to his kids. These blessings are waiting on you in heaven where they can't be chewed on by mice or ruined by moths.

5 God has your back because of your faith in him. He'll keep you until the day you'll join him over the final hill. Your salvation is just waiting on you, cowboy. 6 I know you're excited about the great things to come, even though you know the brush and hell you'll have to ride through to get there. But in the end, it'll all be worth it. 7 These troubles make your faith stronger and make you authentic. Faith like this is worth more than all the cash and cattle in the world. Gold can be made pure through fire, but pure gold can ruin a man. Your faith will not.

8 Even though you haven't seen Jesus, you still love him. You can't see him with your eyes, but you believe in him with your heart. You have a joy inside of you that cannot be explained. 9 Your ride with God is not aimless. You have a destination in mind and that is your salvation and coming home to God.

10 The old cowboys who rode for God studied hard and tried to figure out the grace that was coming. 11 Jesus's Spirit was with them and whispered of his sufferings and how you would benefit from them. Those old cowboys desperately wanted to know what this new ride of hope would look like. And now you get to ride it.

12 Everything these old cowboys did was not for themselves. They were looking out for you when they told of what God had showed them about the future. You have heard about the future they were shown when those you know shared with you the good news of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. Shoot, even the angels long to know more about these things you were told.

A Holy Ride

13 Get your minds wrapped around being a servant because that's what you've been called to be. Be self-controlled and ride with hope in the grace that is yours when Jesus comes riding back to get us. 14 Before, you only rode for yourself and did whatever you wanted to do. But now you are children of God and we ride for him and do whatever he wants us to. 15 Do the right thing in all you do. This is the way to ride for God and he chose you. 16 Don't forget what the Good Book says, "Be holy because I am holy."

17 You talk to God and call him your Father, but he ain't going to cut you no slack. Everyone will answer for the lives they live. So, while your time on earth is short, make it a good ride. Ride with respect toward God and all he has done for you. 18 The way you used to live is useless to you now. You didn't know any better so you just did what everyone else was doing. But you have a new boss now who is showing you a better way. You were purchased from death at a terrible price that was not silver or gold. 19 The currency used to buy you was the blood of Jesus. He was the only one pure and perfect enough to be the sacrifice that took away your sins. 20 He was chosen for this ride before the world was made, but now you have had the opportunity to witness it. 21 It is through Jesus that you have faith in God. And it is this God who raised Jesus from the dead and will raise you too if you believe and hope in Him.

22 Now that you have been made pure through doing what God has told you to do, you will be able to love others like you're supposed to. Love each other with all you've got—hold nothing back. 23 You have been made new! This new life isn't made from something perishable, but imperishable. You were made new through the good news that lasts forever and ever. 24 The Good Book says, "Our lives are like the grass in the spring, and any honor we enjoy is like the flowers in the field; though the grass and flowers will fade and die, 25 the word of the Lord lasts forever."

And this is the word that was given to you.
