Simplified Cowboy Version

1 Corinthians 2

1 When I rode into town, I didn't use riddles and fancy speeches to reveal God's secret plan. 2 I spoke as plainly as the nose on your face. I told you who Jesus was and what he did for all of us when he was strung up on the cross. 3 You didn't hear this from some cocky roper, but from one who didn't feel worthy of the words he said. Quite frankly, I was scared out of my gourd. 4 But as I said, the message you heard was a plain and simple one. I didn't rely on practiced sermons, but on the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 God wanted it like this because he wants you to trust in his abilities, not in men's words.

6 But don't get me wrong, when I'm with top hands I can give them wisdom that can even make them better hands. But this knowledge isn't one you can hear from blowhards and braggarts. 7 Nope, this wisdom comes from the mystery of God himself. This secret has been hidden from the world for a long time but was finally revealed for our glory and his honor. 8 But the folks who run this world had no idea. If they'd even suspected, they would have never crucified Jesus and unleashed God's power on the world. 9 This is what the Good Book meant when it said, "No eye has seen, nor any ear has heard; no mind could even imagine what God has in store for those who ride for him."

10 God told us the secret through the Holy Ghost. His Spirit is the one who guides us on the trail and reveals the mysteries of God. 11 When a cowboy rides the pastures, only his soul hears his secret thoughts. It's the same way with God.12 13 The Holy Spirit is the soul of God and it knows God's thoughts and explains them to us. 14 And just like a city fellow can't know what it's like to ride for the brand, neither can an unbeliever know what God's thoughts are. They think all this stuff about God is just myth and folly. But it's no surprise to us, is it? A cowboy's secrets can't be explained to a tenderfoot. They'd never understand the life or the code of the West. 15 Those who ride for the brand are made aware of all things. Now that we know the truth, we pay little attention to those who criticize us for following it. 16 Even the great cowboy Isaiah, said, "Who knows what the Boss is up to? Who thinks they can tell him a better way to run the ranch?"

We understand what he's doing because we ride the trail with the Top Hand, Jesus.
