and you will say, “How I hated discipline,and how my heart despised correction.
And say, "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

Then you will say, "I hated being told what to do! I would not listen to correction!
And you will say, "How I hated discipline! My heart spurned reproof!
And you say, "How I hated instruction and discipline, And my heart despised correction and reproof!
And you say, "How I hated instruction! And my heart disdainfully rejected rebuke!
And say, "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;
And say, How haue I hated instruction, and mine heart despised correction!

and shout, "I hated advice and correction!
"How I hated discipline! My whole being despised reproof,

Then you will say, "Why didn't I listen to my parents? Why didn't I pay attention to my teachers? I didn't want to be disciplined. I refused to be corrected.
And you say, Why did I hate instruction, and my heart despise reproof,
and you will say, "Why would I never learn? Why would I never let anyone correct me?
and say "How I hated discipline, and I despised reproof!"
and say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction;
and then saye: Alas, why hated I nurtoure? why dyd my hert despyse correccion?
And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;
And you will say, How was teaching hated by me, and my heart put no value on training;
And say: 'How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
And say, How haue I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproofe?
Alas, why hated I nurture? why did my heart dispise correction?
and thou shalt say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs!
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
Whi wlatide Y teching, and myn herte assentide not to blamyngis;
And say, How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
And say: "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction!
You will say, "How I hated discipline! If only I had not ignored all the warnings!
You would say, "How I have hated teaching! My heart hated strong words!
and you say, "Oh, how I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!
And thou shalt say - How I hated correction! and, reproof, my heart disdained;
Why have I hated instruction, and my heart consented not to reproof,
And hast said, `How have I hated instruction, And reproof hath my heart despised,
And you say, "How I have hated instruction! And my heart spurned reproof!

And say, how have I hated instruction,.... To live virtuously, and avoid the adulterous woman; this he says, as wondering at his stupidity, folly, and madness, that he should hate and abhor that which was so much his interest to have observed. Gersom interprets it of the instruction of the law; but it is much better to understand it of the instruction of the Gospel; which the carnal mind of man is enmity unto, and which they are so stupid as to abhor; when it is of so much usefulness to preserve from error and heresy, superstition, will worship, and idolatry;
and my heart despised reproof; for following the whorish woman; and which was secretly despised in the heart, and heartily too, if not expressed with the mouth: it is one part of the Gospel ministry to reprove for false doctrine and false worship, though it generally falls under the contempt of the erroneous and idolatrous.
