Bible Verse Review
from Treasury of Scripure Knowledge
Azariah: Dr. Kennicott complains loudly here of "the corruption in the name of this king of Judah, who is expressed by four different names in this chapter: Ozriah, Oziah, Ozrihu, and Ozihu. Our oldest Hebrew manuscript relieves us here, by reading truly, in 2 Kings 15:1, 2 Kings 15:6, 2 Kings 15:7, Uzziah, where the printed text is differently corrupted. This reading is called true:
1. Because it is supported by the Syriac and Arabic versions in these three verses.
2. Because the printed text itself has it so in 2 Kings 15:32 and 2 Kings 15:34 of this very chapter.
3. Because it is so expressed in the parallel place in Chronicles.
4. Because it is not ï××ס×××¢, Azarias, but ï××××¢, Ozias (Uzziah) in St. Matthew's genealogy.

And that has been reckoned to him as righteousness from generation to generation for ever.
Is this blessing pronounced only upon the circumcised, or also upon the uncircumcised? We say that faith was reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.
He received circumcision as a sign or seal of the righteousness which he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised and who thus have righteousness reckoned to them,
that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was to go.
