Contextual Overview

¹⁷ The fourth allotment of land went to the clans of the tribe of Issachar. ¹⁸ Its boundaries included the following towns: Jezreel, Kesulloth, Shunem, ¹⁹ Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath, ²⁰ Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez, ²¹ Remeth, En-gannim, En-haddah, and Beth-pazzez. ²² The boundary also touched Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth-shemesh, ending at the Jordan River—sixteen towns with their surrounding villages. ²³ The homeland allocated to the clans of the tribe of Issachar included these towns and their surrounding villages.

When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, "Run for your lives! And don't look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!"

Genesis 19:19
"You have been so gracious to me and saved my life, and you have shown such great kindness. But I cannot go to the mountains. Disaster would catch up to me there, and I would soon die.

Genesis 19:22
But hurry! Escape to it, for I can do nothing until you arrive there." (This explains why that village was known as Zoar, which means "little place.")

Genesis 19:25
He utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation.

And Hapharaim,.... The first of these is by Jerom y called Aphraim, a city of the tribe of Issachar; and adds, there is at this day a village called Affarea, six miles from Legion to the north;

and Shion; of Seon or Soen, the same with Shion here, he says z, there was a village of this name shown in his time near Mount Tabor;

and Anaharath, of which we have no account elsewhere.
