Song of Solomon 1
The Young Shulammite Bride and Jerusalem's Daughters
1 The (F1)Song of (C1)Songs, which is Solomon's.
2 "(F1)May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!
For your (C1)love is better than wine.
3 "Your (C1)oils have a pleasing fragrance,
Your (C2)name is like (F1)purified oil;
Therefore the (F2)(C3)maidens love you.
4 "Draw me after you and let us run together!
The (C1)king has brought me into his chambers."
We will (F2)extol your (C2)love more than wine.
Rightly do they love you."
5 "(F1)I am black but (C1)lovely,
O (C2)daughters of Jerusalem,
Like the (C3)tents of (C4)Kedar,
Like the curtains of Solomon.
6 "Do not stare at me because I am (F1)swarthy,
For the sun has burned me.
My (C1)mother's sons were angry with me;
They made me (C2)caretaker of the vineyards,
But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.
7 "Tell me, O you (C1)whom my soul loves,
Where do you (C2)pasture your flock,
Where do you make it (C3)lie down at noon?
For why should I be like one who (F1)veils herself
Beside the flocks of your (C4)companions?"
Solomon, the Lover, Speaks
8 "(F1)If you yourself do not know,
(C1)Most beautiful among women,
Go forth on the trail of the flock
And pasture your young goats
By the tents of the shepherds.
9 "(F1)To me, (C1)my darling, you are like
My (C2)mare among the chariots of Pharaoh.
10 "Your (C1)cheeks are lovely with ornaments,
Your neck with strings of (C2)beads."
11 "(F1)We will make for you ornaments of gold
With beads of silver."
12 "(F1)While the king was at his (F2)table,
My (F3)(C1)perfume gave forth its fragrance.
13 "My beloved is to me a pouch of (C1)myrrh
Which lies all night between my breasts.
14 "My beloved is to me a cluster of (C1)henna blossoms
In the vineyards of (C2)Engedi."
15 "(F1)<,>(F2)(C1)How beautiful you are, my darling,
(F2)How beautiful you are!
Your (C2)eyes are like doves."
16 "(F1)<,>(F2)How handsome you are, (C1)my beloved,
And so pleasant!
Indeed, our couch is luxuriant!
17 "The beams of our houses are (C1)cedars,
Our rafters, (F1)(C2)cypresses.
