Mace New Testament

Luke 17

1 Then said Jesus to his disciples, it is impossible but that discouragements should come: but wo to him, who is the occasion of them. 2 it were better for him that a milstone were hang'd about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should occasion any innocent person to relapse. 3 take care of your conduct. if your brother offend you, rebuke him, and if he repent, forgive him. 4 tho' he should offend you seven times in a day, and seven times in the day return to you, saying, I repent, you must forgive him. 5 The Apostles having said to the Lord, increase our faith, he answer'd them, 6 if your faith improv'd like a grain of mustard-seed, you might say to this sycamine-tree, be thou rooted up, and planted in the sea; and it should obey you. 7 Who of you having a servant, that plows, or feeds your cattle, will immediately upon his coming from field, say to him, come and sit at table? 8 won't he rather say, get ready my supper, dress yourself, and wait upon me, till I have done eating and drinking; after that, take your meal? 9 will he think himself oblig'd to that servant for doing what he was order'd? I believe not. 10 so when you have done all that you were commanded to do, say, we are unprofitable servants; we have only done what was our duty to do.

11 As Jesus was going to Jerusalem, he happen'd to pass between Samaria and Galilee. 12 and as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten lepers, who stood at a distance, and cry'd out aloud, Jesus our master, 13 take pity on us. 14 as soon as he perceiv'd them, he said to them, go shew yourselves to the priests. and on the way they found themselves cured. 15 one of them perceiving he was healed, turn'd back, praising God aloud. 16 then prostrating himself at the feet of Jesus, he gave him thanks. now this man was a Samaritan. 17 and Jesus said to him, were not all the ten healed? where then are the other nine? 18 is no body return'd to glorify God, but this alien only? 19 and he said to him, rise, go your way, your faith has sav'd you.

20 Upon the Pharisees asking him, when the kingdom of God should come, he answer'd them, the kingdom of God is not usher'd in with pomp and exclamations, 21 as see here! or see there! for even now the kingdom of God is commenc'd among you. 22 At length he said to his disciples, the time will come, when ye will wish to see the son of man appear, and shall not see him. 23 they will tell you, here he is, or, he is there: but don't go out to follow them; 24 for as the lightning flashes from one extremity of the sky to the other, so shall the appearance of the son of man be. 25 but before this, he must undergo many sufferings, and be rejected by this generation: 26 the same thing shall happen in the son of man's time as did in Noah's days. 27 eating and drinking, marriages and matches was the business till the very day that Noah entred into the ark, when the flood came and overwhelm'd them all. 28 and as it was in the days of Lot, they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building: 29 but the very day that Lot went out of Sodom, a storm of lightning and thunder fell from heaven and destroy'd them all. 30 even thus shall it be in the day when the son of man shall appear. 31 then let not him that is on the house-top venture down to secure his furniture: and he that is in the field, let him not return back. 32 remember Lot's wife. 33 he that seeks to save his life, will expose it; and he that exposes his life, will preserve it. 34 I tell you, that of two persons lying in the same bed that night, the one shall be taken, and the other left. 35 two women shall be grinding together, the one shall be taken, and the other left: 36 two men shall be in the field, the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37 then they ask'd him, where, Lord, will this happen? he reply'd, wherever the carcase is, there will the eagles hover together.
