"I said, ‘But, Lord, the people know that I was the one who put the believers in jail and beat them. I went through all the synagogues to find and arrest the people who believe in you.
And I sayde: Lorde they knowe that I presoned and bet in every synagoge them that beleved on the.
I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.

"`Lord,' I replied, `they themselves well know how active I was in imprisoning, and in flogging in synagogue after synagogue those who believe in Thee;
And Y seide, Lord, thei witen, that Y was closing togidir `in to prisoun, and betinge bi synagogis hem that bileueden `in to thee.
And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
'Lord,' I answered, 'they know very well that in one synagogue after another I imprisoned and beat those who believed in You.
I replied, "Lord, they know that in many of our meeting places I arrested and beat people who had faith in you.
"And I said, 'Lord, they themselves know [without any doubt] that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in You [and Your message of salvation].
And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
And I said, Lord, they themselves have knowledge that I went through the Synagogues putting in prison and whipping all those who had faith in you:
I said, ‘Lord, they know themselves that in every synagogue I used to imprison and flog those who trusted in you;
And *I* said, Lord, they themselves know that *I* was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue those that believe on thee;
And I said, My Lord, they know also how I delivered to the house of the bound, and smote in all the synagogues, those who have believed in thee.
And I said: My Lord, they well know that I have delivered up to prison, and have scourged in all synagogues, those who believed in thee.
And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned, and beat in euery synagogue them that beleeued on thee.
"‘But Lord,' I argued, ‘they certainly know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.
I said, ‘Lord, they know I took Christians out of every Jewish place of worship. I had them beaten and put in prison.
And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.
Then I sayd, Lord, they know that I prisoned, and beat in euery Synagogue them that beleeued in thee.
And I said, My LORD, they know that I imprisoned and beat, in every synagogue, those who believed in you:
And, I, said - Lord! they themselves, well know that I was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue them who were believing on thee.
And I said: Lord, they know that I cast into prison and beat in every synagogue them that believed in thee.
And I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in thee.
And I sayde: Lord, they knowe that I prisoned and beat in euery synagogue them that beleued on thee.
‘Lord,' I answered, ‘they know very well that I went to the synagogues and arrested and beat those who believe in you.
“But I said, ‘Lord, they know that in synagogue after synagogue I had those who believed in you imprisoned and beaten.
And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that from synagogue to synagogue I was imprisoning and beating those who believed in you.
And I said, Lord, they understand that I was imprisoning and beating the ones believing on You throughout the synagogues.
and I said, Lord, they -- they know that I was imprisoning and was scourging in every synagogue those believing on thee;
said I, they know it is I that imprison'd those who believed on thee, and caus'd them to be scourg'd in the assemblies:
"At first I objected: ‘Who has better credentials? They all know how obsessed I was with hunting out those who believed in you, beating them up in the meeting places and throwing them in jail. And when your witness Stephen was murdered, I was right there, holding the coats of the murderers and cheering them on. And now they see me totally converted. What better qualification could I have?'
I replied, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat those in the various synagogues who believed in you.
So I said, "Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believe on You.
"'But, Boss,' I said, 'I'm the best cowboy for the job. All these people know I hunted your followers like coyotes.
"And I said, 'Lord, they themselves understand that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in You.
And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves understand that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in You.

And I said, Lord - This shows that it was the Lord Jesus whom Paul saw in a trance in the temple. The term âLordâ is usually applied to him in the Acts . See the notes on Acts 1:24.
They know - Christians know; and they will therefore be not likely to receive to their fellowship their former enemy and persecutor.
Beat in every synagogue - Beating, or scourging, was often done in the synagogue. See the notes on Matthew 10:17. Compare Acts 26:11. It was customary for those who were converted to Christianity still to meet with the Jews in their synagogues, and to join with them in their worship.

Verse Acts 22:19. I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue — This shows what an active instrument Saul of Tarsus was, in the hands of this persecuting priesthood, and how very generally the followers of Christ were persecuted, and how difficult it was at this time to profess Christianity.
