Contextual Overview

1And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying, 2"Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: You are holy, because I, your God YHWH, [am] holy. 3You each fear his mother and his father, and you keep My Sabbaths; I [am] your God YHWH. 4You do not turn to the idols, and you do not make a molten god for yourselves; I [am] your God YHWH. 5And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of peace-offerings to YHWH, you sacrifice it at your pleasure;6it is eaten in the day of your sacrificing [it], and on the next day, and that which is left to the third day is burned with fire, 7and if it is really eaten on the third day, it [is] an abomination, it is not pleasing, 8and he who is eating it bears his iniquity, for he has defiled the holy thing of YHWH, and that person has been cut off from his people. 9And in your reaping the harvest of your land you do not completely reap the corner of your field, and you do not gather the gleaning of your harvest, 10and you do not glean your vineyard, even the omitted part of your vineyard you do not gather, you leave them for the poor and for the sojourner; I [am] your God YHWH.

your own will: The Hebrews had several kinds of offerings, which they called corban. Some were free-will offerings, and others were of obligation. The first fruits, the tenths, the sin-offerings, were of obligation; the peace-offerings, vows, offerings of oil, wine, bread, and other things which were made to the temple, or to the ministers of the Lord, were offerings of devotion; these constituted the greater part. They indeed were a shadow of good things to come, which we enjoy in full fruition through THE ONE great SACRIFICE, even Jesus Christ. Aaron must lay his robes away

When God himself comes down to be

The offering and the priest. "

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord,.... Which were of three sorts, a thanksgiving, a vow, and a voluntary offering, Leviticus 7:11; the latter seems to be here meant, as appears by what follows:

ye shall offer it at your own will; a voluntary freewill offering, of their own accord, and not by force, as Aben Ezra; and in such offerings they were left to their liberty to offer what they pleased, it might be of the flock, or of the herd, a male or a female, Leviticus 3:1. The Targum of Jonathan is

"for your acceptation;''

that is, that should be offered, and in such a manner as to be accepted of you with God; which sense is countenanced by Leviticus 19:7; and becomes acceptable, when what follows about eating them is attended to.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

Rather, ye shall offer it that you may be accepted.
