Psalms 94

God of Vengeance, Shine Forth

1 O Yahweh, God of (F1)(C1)vengeance,
God of (F1)vengeance, (F2)(C2)shine forth!

2 (C1)Be lifted up, O (C2)Judge of the earth,
Render recompense (C3)to the proud.

3 How long shall the wicked, O Yahweh,
How long shall the (C1)wicked exult?

4 They pour forth words, they (C1)speak arrogantly;
All workers of iniquity (C2)vaunt themselves.

5 They (C1)crush Your people, O Yahweh,
And (C2)afflict Your inheritance.

6 They (C1)slay the widow and the sojourner
And murder the orphans.

7 (C1)They have said, "Yah does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob discern."

8 Discern, you (C1)senseless among the people;
And when will you have insight, (C1)you fools?

9 He who (C1)planted the ear, (F1)does He not hear?
He who formed the eye, (F1)does He not see?

10 He who (F1)(C1)disciplines the nations, will He not rebuke,
Even He who (C2)teaches man knowledge?

11 Yahweh (C1)knows the thoughts of man,
(F1)That they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom (C1)You discipline, O Yah,
And (C2)whom You teach out of Your law;

13 That You may grant him (C1)calm from the (C2)days of calamity,
Until (C3)a pit is dug for the wicked.

14 For (C1)Yahweh will not abandon His people,
Nor will He (C2)forsake His inheritance.

15 For (F1)(C1)judgment will (F2)again be righteous,
And all the upright in heart will (F3)follow it.

16 Who will (C1)arise for me against evildoers?
Who will take his stand for me (C2)against workers of iniquity?

17 If (C1)Yahweh had not been my help,
My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.

18 If I should say, "(C1)My foot has stumbled,"
Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, will hold me up.

19 When my anxious thoughts (F1)multiply within me,
Your (C1)consolations delight my soul.

20 Can a (F1)(C1)throne of destruction be allied with You,
One (C2)which forms (F2)trouble by statute?

21 They (C1)band themselves together against the (F1)life of the righteous
And (C2)condemn (F2)the innocent to death.

22 But Yahweh has been my (C1)stronghold,
And my God the (C2)rock of my refuge.

23 He has (C1)brought back their (F1)iniquity upon them
And will (F2)(C2)destroy them in their evil;
Yahweh our God will (F2)destroy them.
