Psalms 71

   |

O God, Do Not Forsake Me

1 (C1)In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.

2 (C1)In Your righteousness deliver me and protect me;
(C2)Incline Your ear to me and save me.

3 (C1)Be to me a rock of (C2)habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given the (C3)command to save me,
For You are (C4)my (F1)rock and my fortress.

4 (C1)Protect me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the (F1)grasp of the unrighteous and ruthless man,

5 For You are my (C1)hope;
O Lord Yahweh, You are my (C2)trust from my youth.

6 (F1)By You I have been (C1)sustained from my birth;
You are He who (C2)took me from my mother's womb;
My (C3)praise is continually (F2)of You.

7 I have become a (C1)marvel to many,
For You are (C2)my strong refuge.

8 My (C1)mouth is filled with Your praise
And with (C2)Your beauty all day long.

9 Do not cast me off in the (C1)time of old age;
Do not forsake me when my strength fails.

10 For my enemies have spoken (F1)against me;
And those who (C1)watch my (F2)life (C2)have counseled together,

11 Saying, "(C1)God has forsaken him;
Pursue and seize him, for there is (C2)no one to deliver."

12 O God, (C1)do not be far from me;
O my God, (C2)hasten to my help!

13 Let those who accuse my soul be (C1)ashamed and consumed;
Let them be (C2)wrapped up with reproach and dishonor, who (C3)seek (F1)to do me evil.

14 But as for me, I will (C1)wait continually,
And will (F1)(C2)praise You yet more and more.

15 My (C1)mouth shall recount Your righteousness
And (C2)Your salvation all day long;
For I (C3)do not know the (F1)sum of them.

16 I will come (C1)with the mighty deeds of Lord Yahweh;
I will (C2)bring to remembrance Your righteousness, Yours alone.

17 O God, You (C1)have taught me from my youth,
And I still (C2)declare Your wondrous deeds.

18 And even when I am (C1)old and gray, O God, do not forsake me,
Until I (C2)declare Your (F1)strength to this generation,
Your might to all who are to come.

19 (F1)For Your (C1)righteousness, O God, reaches to the (F2)heavens,
You who have (C2)done great things;
O God, (C3)who is like You?

20 You, who have (C1)shown (F1)me many troubles and (F2)evils,
Will (C2)revive (F1)me again,
And will bring (F1)me up again (C3)from the depths of the earth.

21 May You increase my (C1)greatness
And turn to (C2)comfort me.

22 I will also praise You with (F1)(C1)a harp,
Even Your (F2)truth, O my God;
To You I will sing praises with the (C2)lyre,
O (C3)Holy One of Israel.

23 My lips will (C1)sing for joy when I sing praises to You;
And my (C2)soul, which You have redeemed.

24 My (C1)tongue also will utter Your righteousness all day long;
For they are (C2)ashamed, for they are humiliated who seek (F1)to do me evil.
