Yahweh Be Magnified

Of David.

1 Contend, O Yahweh, with those who (C1)contend with me;
Fight against those who (C2)fight against me.

2 Take hold of (F1)(C1)shield and large shield
And rise up for (C2)my help.

3 Draw also the spear and (F1)the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me;
Say to my soul, "I am (C1)your salvation."

4 Let those be (C1)ashamed and dishonored who seek my (F1)life;
Let those who devise evil against me be (C2)turned back and humiliated.

5 Let them be (C1)like chaff before the wind,
With the angel of Yahweh driving them on.

6 Let their way be dark and (C1)slippery,
With the angel of Yahweh pursuing them.

7 For (C1)without cause they (C2)hid their net for me;
Without cause they dug a (F1)pit for my soul.

8 Let (C1)destruction, which he does not know, come upon him,
And (C2)let the net, which he hid, catch him;
Let him fall into it in (C3)destruction.

9 And my soul shall (C1)rejoice in Yahweh;
It shall (C2)be joyful in His salvation.

10 All my (C1)bones will say, "Yahweh, (C2)who is like You,
Who delivers the afflicted from him (C3)who is too strong for him,
And (C4)the afflicted and the needy from him who robs him?"

11 (C1)Malicious witnesses rise up,
Who ask me of things that I do not know.

12 They (C1)repay me evil for good,
It is bereavement to my soul.

13 But as for me, (C1)when they were sick, my (C2)clothing was sackcloth;
I (C3)humbled my soul with fasting,
And my (C4)prayer kept returning to my bosom.

14 I walked about as though it were my friend or brother;
I (C1)bowed down (F1)mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother.

15 But (C1)at my (F1)stumbling they were glad and gathered themselves together;
The (F2)(C2)smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me,
They (C3)tore at me and never were silent.

16 Amongst the godless jesters at a feast,
They (C1)gnashed at me with their teeth.

17 Lord, (C1)how long will You look on?
Bring back my soul (C2)from their ravages,
My (C3)only life from the lions.

18 I will (C1)give You thanks in the great assembly;
I will (C2)praise You among a mighty people.

19 (C1)Let those who are wrongfully (C2)my enemies not be glad over me;
Nor let those (C3)who hate me without cause (F1)(C4)wink maliciously.

20 For they do not speak peace,
But they devise (C1)deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

21 They (C1)opened their mouth wide against me;
They said, "(C2)Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!"

22 (C1)You have seen it, O Yahweh, (C2)do not keep silent;
O Lord, (C3)do not be far from me.

23 (C1)Stir up Yourself, and awake to my justice
And to my cause, my God and my Lord.

24 (C1)Judge me, O Yahweh my God, according to Your righteousness,
And (C2)do not let them be glad over me.

25 Do not let them say in their heart, "(C1)Aha, our desire!"
Do not let them say, "We have (C2)swallowed him up!"

26 Let (C1)those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who are glad at the evil done to me;
Let those be (C2)clothed with shame and dishonor who (C3)magnify themselves over me.

27 Let them (C1)shout for joy and be glad, who delight in (C2)my righteousness;
And (C3)let them say continually, "Yahweh be magnified,
Who (C4)delights in the peace of His slave."

28 And (C1)my tongue shall utter Your righteousness
And Your praise all day long.
