Psalms 140
Rescue Me, O Yahweh, from Evil Men
1 (C1)Rescue me, O Yahweh, from evil men;
Guard me from (C2)violent men
2 Who (C1)think up evil things in their hearts;
They (C2)continually stir up wars.
3 They (C1)sharpen their tongues as a serpent;
(C2)Poison of an asp is under their lips. Selah may mean Pause, Crescendo, Musical Interlude">(F1)Selah.
4 (C1)Keep me, O Yahweh, from the hands of the wicked;
(C2)Guard me from violent men
Who (F1)give thought to (F2)(C3)trip up my steps.
5 The proud have (C1)hidden a trap for me, and cords;
They have spread a (C2)net by the (F1)wayside;
They have set (C3)snares for me. Selah.
6 I (C1)said to Yahweh, "You are my God;
(C2)Give ear, O Yahweh, to the (C3)voice of my supplications.
7 "O Yahweh, O Lord, (C1)the strength of my salvation,
You have (C2)covered my head in the day of (F1)battle.
8 "Do not grant, O Yahweh, the (C1)desires of the wicked;
Do not promote (C2)his evil (F1)scheme, that they not be exalted. Selah.
9 "As for the head of those who surround me,
May the (C1)trouble from their lips cover them.
10 "May (C1)burning coals be shaken out upon them;
May He (C2)cause them to fall into the fire,
Into (F1)bottomless pits from which they (C3)can never rise.
11 "May a (F1)slanderer not be established in the earth;
(C1)May evil hunt the violent man (F2)speedily."
12 I know that Yahweh will (C1)maintain the cause for the afflicted
And (C2)judgment for the needy.
13 Surely the (C1)righteous will give thanks to Your name;
The (C2)upright will abide in Your presence.
