Unless Yahweh Builds the House

¹ Unless Yahweh ^(C1)builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless Yahweh ^(C2)watches the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.

² It is in vain that you rise up early,
That you sit out late,
O you who ^(C1)eat the bread of ^(F1)painful labors;
For in this manner, He gives ^(C2)sleep to His ^(C3)beloved.

³ Behold, ^(C1)children are ^(F1)an inheritance of Yahweh,
The ^(C2)fruit of the womb is a reward.

⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a ^(C1)warrior,
So are the children of one's youth.

⁵ How ^(C1)blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them;
^(C2)They will not be ashamed
When they ^(C3)speak with enemies ^(C4)in the gate.
