Nahum 1
Yahweh's Wrath Against Nineveh
1 The (F1)(C1)oracle of (C2)Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 A (C1)jealous and avenging God is (F1)Yahweh;
Yahweh is (C2)avenging and (F2)wrathful.
Yahweh is (C3)avenging against His adversaries,
And He keeps His anger for His enemies.
3 Yahweh is (C1)slow to anger and great in power,
And Yahweh will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.
4 He (C1)rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
He dries up all the rivers.
(C2)Bashan and Carmel languish;
The blossoms of Lebanon languish.
5 Mountains (C1)quake because of Him,
6 (C1)Who can stand before His indignation?
Who can endure the (C2)burning of His anger?
7 Yahweh is (C1)good,
A strong defense in the day of distress,
8 But with an (C1)overflowing flood
9 Whatever you (C1)devise against Yahweh,
He will make a (C2)complete destruction of it.
Distress will not rise up twice.
10 Like tangled (C1)thorns,
And like those who are (C2)drunken with their drink,
They are (C3)consumed
As stubble fully dried up.
11 From you has gone forth
One who (C1)devised evil against Yahweh,
A (F1)(C2)vile counselor.
"Though they are at full strength and likewise many,
Even so, they will be (C1)cut off and pass away.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you (C2)no longer.
13 "So now, I will (C1)break his yoke bar from upon you,
And I will break your bands apart."
14 And Yahweh has commanded concerning (F1)you:
"(F2)There will (C1)no longer be seed from your name.
From the house of your gods,
I will cut off (C2)graven image and molten image.
I will prepare your (C3)grave,
For you are contemptible."
15 (F1)Behold, (C1)on the mountains the feet of him who proclaims good news,
Who (F2)announces peace!
(C2)Celebrate your feasts, O Judah;
Pay your vows.
For (C3)never again will the (F3)vile one pass through you;
He is (C4)cut off completely.
