Jonah 2

   |

Jonah's Prayer

1 (F1)Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God (C1)from the stomach of the fish,2 and he said,

"I (C1)called out of my distress to Yahweh,
And He answered me.
I cried for help from the belly of (C2)Sheol;
You heard my voice.

3 "For You had (C1)cast me into the deep,
Into the heart of the seas,
And the current surrounded me.
All Your (C2)breakers and waves passed over me.

4 "So I said, 'I have been (C1)driven away from (F1)Your sight.
Nevertheless I will look again (C2)toward Your holy temple.'

5 "(C1)Water encompassed me to my very soul.
The great (C2)deep surrounded me,
Weeds were wrapped around my head.

6 "I (C1)went down to the (F1)base of the mountains.
The earth with its (C2)bars closed behind me forever,
But You have (C3)brought up my life from (F2)the pit, O Yahweh my God.

7 "While my soul was (C1)fainting within me,
I (C2)remembered Yahweh,
And my (C3)prayer came to You,
To (C4)Your holy temple.

8 "Those who (C1)regard worthless idols
Forsake their lovingkindness,

9 But as for me, I will (C1)sacrifice to You
With the voice of thanksgiving.
That which I have vowed I will (C2)pay.
(C3)Salvation belongs to Yahweh."

10 Then Yahweh spoke to the (C1)fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
