Contextual Overview

1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, 2"Hear the words of this covenant, and you shall speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem 3and say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, "Cursed is the man who does not hear the words of this covenant 4which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, ‘Listen to My voice, and do according to all which I command you; so you shall be My people, and I will be your God,' 5in order to establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day."'" Then I answered and said, "Amen, O Yahweh." 6And Yahweh said to me, "Call out all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Hear the words of this covenant so that you will do them. 7For I solemnly warned your fathers in the day that I brought them up from the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising up early and warning, saying, "Listen to My voice." 8Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but walked, each one, in the stubbornness of his evil heart; therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.'" 9Then Yahweh said to me, "A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10They have turned back to the iniquities of their ancestors who refused to hear My words, and they have walked after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I cut with their fathers."

the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt;

even unto this day, rising early, and protesting, saying, obey my voice; that is, from the time of the giving of the law, in all successive ages, to the present time, he had sent his prophets to them, time after time, morning by morning, early and late, to press, exhort, and stir them up to an obedience to his will, and to warn them of the evils that would come by disobedience to it.
