Put On the New Man

¹ Therefore, if you have been ^(C1)raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, ^(C2)seated at the right hand of God.^2 (F1)(C1)Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.³ For you ^(C1)died and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.⁴ When Christ, ^(C1)who is our life, is manifested, ^(C2)then you also will be manifested with Him in glory.

^5 (C1)Therefore, ^(F1)consider ^(C2)the members of your earthly body as dead to ^(C3)sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.⁶ On account of these things, ^(C1)the wrath of God is coming ^(F1)upon the sons of disobedience,⁷ and ^(C1)in them you also once walked, when you were living ^(F1)in them.⁸ But now you also, ^(C1)lay them all aside: ^(C2)wrath, anger, malice, slander, and ^(C3)abusive speech from your mouth.^9 (F1)(C1)Do not lie to one another, since you ^(C2)put off the old man with its evil practices,¹⁰ and have ^(C1)put on the new man who is being ^(F1)(C2)renewed to a full knowledge ^(C3)according to the image of the One who ^(C4)created him—¹¹ a renewal in which ^(C1)there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, ^(C2)circumcised and uncircumcised, ^(F1)(C3)barbarian, Scythian, ^(C4)slave, and freeman, but ^(C5)Christ is all and in all.

¹² So, as the ^(C1)elect of God, holy and beloved, ^(C2)put on a ^(C3)heart of compassion, kindness, ^(C4)humility, gentleness, and ^(F1)(C5)patience;^13 (C1)bearing with one another, and ^(C2)graciously forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone, ^(C2)just as the Lord graciously forgave you, so also should you.¹⁴ Above all these things put on love, which is ^(F1)(C1)the perfect bond of ^(C2)unity.¹⁵ And let ^(C1)the peace of Christ ^(F1)rule in your hearts, to which ^(F2)indeed you were called in ^(C2)one body, and ^(F3)be thankful.¹⁶ Let ^(C1)the word of ^(F1)Christ dwell in you richly, ^(F2)with all wisdom ^(C2)teaching and admonishing ^(F3)one another ^(C3)with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, ^(C4)singing ^(F4)with gratefulness in your hearts to God.^17 (C1)And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, ^(C2)giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Family and Work

^18 (C1)Wives, ^(C2)be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.^19 (C1)Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.^20 (C1)Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is pleasing ^(F1)to the Lord.^21 (C1)Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.

^22 (C1)Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters ^(F1)according to the flesh, ^(C2)not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but with ^(F2)integrity of heart, fearing the Lord.²³ Whatever you do, do your work ^(F1)heartily, ^(C1)as for the Lord ^(F2)rather than for men,^24 (C1)knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward ^(F1)of ^(C2)the inheritance. ^(F2)(C3)Serve the Lord Christ.²⁵ For ^(C1)he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and ^(F1)(C2)that without partiality.
