Jesus said to them, “A prophet
But Iesus sayde vnto them, A Prophet is not without honour, but in his owne countrey, and among his owne kinne, and in his owne house.

Then Jesus said to them, "People everywhere give honor to a prophet, except in his own town, with his own people, or in his home."
Then Iesus sayd vnto them, A Prophet is not without honour, but in his owne countrey, and among his owne kindred, & in his own house.
And Jesus said to them, There is no prophet who is insulted, except in his own city, and among his own brothers, and in his own house.
And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and in his own household."

But Iesus saide vnto the: A prophet is nowhere lesse set by, the in his awne countre, & at home amonge his awne.
but Jesus said to him, a prophet is never despis'd, except in his own country, among his own kindred, and in his own family:
Jesus told them, "A prophet has little honor in his hometown, among his relatives, on the streets he played in as a child." Jesus wasn't able to do much of anything there—he laid hands on a few sick people and healed them, that's all. He couldn't get over their stubbornness. He left and made a circuit of the other villages, teaching.
Then Jesus said to 'em all, "A cowboy who rides for God gets respect for what he does everywhere except his hometown. All the people he grew up with, including his family, think they know who he really is, but they don't."

But Jesus said unto them,.... The following proverb;
a prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house; the same as in Matthew 13:57;
Matthew 13:57- :. Only the phrase, "among his own kin", is here added: very probably some of those that made these reflections, were some distant relations of Joseph, or Mary; for as Jesus was now in his own country and city, and in his own native place, so among his kindred and relations; who envied his gifts and attainments, and objected to him his rise from that branch of their family, which was the most mean and abject.
