¹ THEN the publicans and sinners drew near to him to hear him. ² And the scribes and Pharisees murmured, saying, He receives even the sinners and eats with them. ³ So Jesus told them this parable, ⁴ What man among you has one hundred sheep, and if one of them should get lost, would he not leave the ninety and nine in the open, and go in search of the one which is lost, until he finds it? ⁵ And when he finds it he rejoices, and he takes it on his shoulders. ⁶ And he comes to his house, and invites his friends and neighbors, and says to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. ⁷ I say to you, that such will be the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety and nine righteous, who need no repentance. ⁸ Or what woman who has ten coins, and should lose one of them, would not light a lamp and sweep the house, and search for it carefully, until she finds it? ⁹ And when she finds it, she calls her women friends and neighbors, and says to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my coin which was lost. ¹⁰ I say to you, that such will be the joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
