Proverbs 28
1 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing them,(C1) 2 When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers,(C1) 3 A destitute leader(F1) who oppresses the poor 4 Those who reject the law praise the wicked,(C1) 5 The evil do not understand justice,(C1) 6 Better the poor person who lives with integrity(C1) 7 A discerning son keeps the law, 8 Whoever increases his wealth through excessive interest(C1) 9 Anyone who turns his ear away from hearing the law— 10 The one who leads the upright into an evil way 11 A rich person is wise in his own eyes, 12 When the righteous triumph, 13 The one who conceals his sins 14 Happy is the one who is always reverent,(C1) 15 A wicked ruler over a helpless people(C1) 16 A leader who lacks understanding 17 Someone burdened by bloodguilt(F1) 18 The one who lives with integrity will be helped, 19 The one who works his land 20 A faithful person will have many blessings,(C1) 21 It is not good to show partiality(C1)— 22 A greedy one(F1) is in a hurry for wealth; 23 One who rebukes a person will later find more favor(C1) 24 The one who robs his father or mother(C1) 25 A greedy person stirs up conflict,(C1) 26 The one who trusts in himself(F1) is a fool, 27 The one who gives to the poor 28 When the wicked come to power,
but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures.
is like a driving rain that leaves no food.(C1)
but those who keep the law pit themselves against them.(C2)
but those who seek the Lord understand everything.(C2)
than the rich one who distorts right and wrong.(F1)(C2)
but a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.(C1)
collects it for one who is kind to the poor.(C2)
even his prayer is detestable.(C1)
will fall into his own pit,(C1)
but the blameless will inherit what is good.(C2)
but a poor one who has discernment sees through him.
there is great rejoicing,(F1)
but when the wicked come to power,
people hide.(C1)
will not prosper,(C1)
but whoever confesses and renounces them
will find mercy.(C2)
but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.(C2)
is like a roaring lion or a charging bear.(C2)
is very oppressive,
but one who hates dishonest profit
prolongs his life.(C1)
will be a fugitive until death.(C1)
Let no one help him.(C2)
but one who distorts right and wrong(F1)
will suddenly fall.(C1)
will have plenty of food,(C1)
but whoever chases fantasies
will have his fill of poverty.(C2)
but one in a hurry to get rich(C2)
will not go unpunished.
yet even a courageous person may sin for a piece of bread.(C2)
he doesn’t know that poverty will come to him.(C1)
than one who flatters(F1) with his tongue.(C2)
and says, “That’s no sin,”(C2)
is a companion to a person who destroys.(C3)
but whoever trusts in the Lord will prosper.(C2)
but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.(C1)
will not be in need,
but one who turns his eyes away(F1)
will receive many curses.(C1)
people hide,
but when they are destroyed,
the righteous flourish.(C1)
