Proverbs 18
1 One who isolates himself pursues selfish desires; 2 A fool does not delight in understanding, 3 When a wicked person comes, contempt also comes, 4 The words of a person’s mouth are deep waters,(C1) 5 It is not good to show partiality to the guilty,(C1) 6 A fool’s lips lead to strife, 7 A fool’s mouth is his devastation, 8 A gossip’s words are like choice food 9 The one who is lazy in his work 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower;(C1) 11 The wealth of the rich is his fortified city; 12 Before his downfall a person’s heart is proud,(C1) 13 The one who gives an answer before he listens— 14 A person’s spirit can endure sickness, 15 The mind of the discerning acquires knowledge, 16 A person’s gift opens doors(F1) for him 17 The first to state his case seems right 18 Casting the lot(C1) ends quarrels 19 An offended brother is harder to reach(F1) 20 From the fruit of a person’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, 22 A man who finds a wife finds a good thing(C1) 23 The poor person pleads,(C1) 24 One with many friends may be harmed,(F1)
but only wants to show off his opinions.(F1)(C1)
and along with dishonor, derision.
a flowing river, a fountain of wisdom.(F1)
denying an innocent person justice.(C2)
and his mouth provokes a beating.(C1)
and his lips are a trap for his life.(C1)
that goes down to one’s innermost being.(F1)(C1)
is brother to a vandal.(F1)(C1)
the righteous run to it and are protected.(F1)(C2)
in his imagination it is like a high wall.(C1)
but humility comes before honor.(C2)
this is foolishness and disgrace for him.(C1)
but who can survive a broken spirit?(C1)
and the ear of the wise seeks it.(C1)
and brings him before the great.(C1)
until another comes and cross-examines him.(C1)
and separates powerful opponents.
than a fortified city,
and quarrels are like the bars of a fortress.
he is filled with the product of his lips.(C1)
and those who love it will eat its fruit.(C1)
and obtains favor from the Lord.(C2)
but the rich one answers roughly.(C2)
but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.(C1)
