Hosea 5

   |

1 Hear this, priests!(C1)2 Rebels(C1) are deeply involved in slaughter;(C2)
I will be a punishment for all of them.(F1)
3 I know Ephraim,(C1)
and Israel is not hidden from me.
For now, Ephraim,(C2)
you have acted promiscuously;
Israel is defiled.
4 Their actions do not allow them
to return to their God,(C1)
for a spirit of promiscuity is among them,(C2)
and they do not know the Lord.(C3)
5 Israel’s arrogance testifies against them.(F1)(C1)
Both Israel and Ephraim stumble
because of their iniquity;(C2)
even Judah will stumble with them.(C3)
6 They go with their flocks and herds
to seek the Lord(C1)
but do not find him;(C2)
he has withdrawn from them.(C3)
7 They betrayed the Lord;(C1)
indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children.(C2)
Now the New Moon(C3) will devour them
along with their fields.(C4)

8 Blow the horn in Gibeah,(C1)
the trumpet in Ramah;(C2)
raise the war cry in Beth-aven:(C3)
Look behind you,(F1) Benjamin!(C4)
9 Ephraim will become a desolation(C1)
on the day of punishment;(C2)
I announce what is certain
among the tribes of Israel.(C3)
10 The princes of Judah are like those
who move boundary markers;(C1)
I will pour out my fury(C2) on them like water.(C3)
11 Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment,(C1)
for he is determined to follow what is worthless.(F1)
12 So I am like rot to Ephraim(C1)
and like decay to the house of Judah.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness
and Judah his wound,
Ephraim went to Assyria(C1)
and sent a delegation to the great king.(F1)(C2)
But he cannot cure you or heal your wound.(C3)
14 For I am like a lion to Ephraim(C1)
and like a young lion to the house of Judah.
Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart.(C2)
I will carry them off,
and no one can rescue them.(C3)
15 I will depart and return to my place
until they recognize their guilt and seek my face;(C1)
they will search for me in their distress.(C2)
