THE MESSAGE
"‘Therefore, this is what God , the Master, says: "‘Doom to the city of murder! I, too, will pile on the wood. Stack the wood high, light the match, Cook the meat, spice it well, pour out the broth, and then burn the bones. Then I'll set the empty pot on the coals and heat it red-hot so the bronze glows, So the germs are killed and the corruption is burned off. But it's hopeless. It's too far gone. The filth is too thick.

¹In the ninth year, on the tenth day of the tenth month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ²"Son of man, write down today's date, for on this very day the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem. ³Now speak a parable to this rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Put the pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water. ⁴Put in the pieces of meat, every good piece-thigh and shoulder-fill it with choice bones. ⁵Take the choicest of the flock and pile the fuel beneath it. Bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.' ⁶Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Woe to the city of bloodshed, to the pot now rusted, whose rust will not come off! Therefore thus saith the Lord God, woe to the bloody city,....

I will even make the pile for fire great; a large pile of wood, a great quantity of fuel to maintain the fire, and keep the pot boiling; meaning the vast army of the Chaldeans, which the Lord would bring against Jerusalem, which should closely besiege it, and vigorously attack it, until it had executed the fury of the wrath of God, comparable to fire, and of his judgments upon it. The Targum is,
