Psalms 75

   |

God Abases the Proud, but Exalts the Righteous.

To the Chief Musician; set to +[the tune of+] "Do Not Destroy." A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

1 We (C1)give thanks and praise to You, O God, we give thanks,
For Your wonderful works declare that Your (F1)name is (C2)near;
People declare (C3)Your wonders.

2 "When I select an (C1)appointed time,
I will (C2)judge with equity," says the LORD.

3 "The (C1)earth and all the inhabitants of it melt in tumultuous times.
It is I who will steady its (C2)pillars. Selah.

4 "I said to the arrogant, 'Do not boast;'
And to the wicked, '(C1)Do not lift up the horn of self-glorification.

5 'Do not lift up your defiant and aggressive horn on high,
(C1)Do not speak with a stiff neck.'"

6 For not from the east, nor from the west,
Nor from the (C1)desert comes exaltation. (VR1)

7 But (C1)God is the Judge;
He (C2)puts down one and lifts up another.

8 For a (C1)cup of His wrath is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams;
(C2)It is well mixed and fully spiced, and He pours out from it;
And all the wicked of the earth must drain it and (C3)drink down to its dregs. (VR1)

9 But as for me, I will (C1)declare it and rejoice forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10 All the (C1)horns of the wicked He will cut off,
But (C2)the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.
