Psalms 54

   |

Prayer for Defense against Enemies.

To the Chief Musician; with stringed instruments. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem, of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, "David is hiding among us."

1 Save me, O God, by (C1)Your name;
And vindicate me by (C2)Your wondrous power.

2 (C1)Hear my prayer, O God;
(C2)Listen to the words of my mouth.

3 For strangers have (C1)risen against me
And (C2)violent men have (C3)sought my life;
They have (C4)not set God before them. Selah.

4 Behold, (C1)God is my helper and ally;
The Lord is the (C2)sustainer of my soul my upholder.

5 He will (C1)pay back the evil to my enemies;
(C2)In Your faithfulness (C3)destroy them.

6 With a (C1)freewill offering I will sacrifice to You;
I will give (C2)thanks and praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.

7 For He has (C1)rescued me from every trouble,
And my eye has (C2)looked with satisfaction (triumph) on my enemies.
