Psalms 52

   |

Futility of Boastful Wickedness.

To the Chief Musician. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech."

1 Why do you (C1)boast of evil, O mighty man?
The (C2)lovingkindness of God endures all day long.

2 Your tongue devises (C1)destruction,
Like a (C2)sharp razor, (C3)working deceitfully.

3 You (C1)love evil more than good,
And (C2)falsehood more than speaking what is right. Selah.

4 You love all words that devour,
O (C1)deceitful tongue.

5 But God will break you down forever;
He will take you away and (C1)tear you away from your tent,
And (C2)uproot you from the (C3)land of the living. Selah.

6 The righteous will (C1)see it and fear,
And will scoffingly (C2)laugh, saying,

7 "Look, this is the man who would not make God his strength his stronghold and fortress,
But (C1)trusted in the abundance of his riches,
(C2)Taking refuge in his wealth."

8 But as for me, I am like a (C1)green olive tree in the house of God;
I (C2)trust confidently in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.

9 I will (C1)thank You forever, because You have done it, You have rescued me and kept me safe.
I will wait on Your name, (C2)for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.
