1 Now as to things offered to idols, 'tis certain that the knowledge you all pretend to have, swells you with pride, but 'tis charity that edifieth. 1-3 The question keeps coming up regarding meat that has been offered up to an idol: Should you attend meals where such meat is served, or not? We sometimes tend to think we know all we need to know to answer these kinds of questions—but sometimes our humble hearts can help us more than our proud minds. We never really know enough until we recognize that God alone knows it all.

4 About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that “an idol is nothing in the world,”(F1) and that “there is no God but one.”(C1)

4 As to the eating therefore of what is offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that the heathen deities have no real existence, and that there is but one God. 4-6 Some people say, quite rightly, that idols have no actual existence, that there's nothing to them, that there is no God other than our one God, that no matter how many of these so-called gods are named and worshiped they still don't add up to anything but a tall story. They say—again, quite rightly—that there is only one God the Father, that everything comes from him, and that he wants us to live for him. Also, they say that there is only one Master—Jesus the Messiah—and that everything is for his sake, including us. Yes. It's true.
4 So let us answer the question about eating meat that has been sacrificed to idols once and for all. An idol is not a god because there is only one true God.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 5 For although there may be (j)so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"—5 For even if (C1)there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, 5 Even though there are things called gods, in heaven or on earth (and there are many "gods" and "lords"), 5 For even if (C1)there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,5 For even if (C1)there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,5 For even if (C1)there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many so-called gods and lords), 5 Many things in heaven and on earth are called gods and lords, but none of them really are gods or lords. 5 For even if there are so-called "gods," either in heaven or on earth — as in fact there are "gods" and "lords" galore —

You can call a horse a cow, but that don't make it true. People use the words "god" and "lord" all the time, but those are just made up words when used incorrectly. 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father.(C1) All things are from him,(C2) and we exist for him. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ. All things are through him, and we exist through him.(C3)
6 But to vs there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him, and one Lord Iesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 6 yet (k)for us there is one God, the Father, (l)from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and (m)one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and (n)through whom we exist.6 yet for us (C1)there is only one God, (C2)the Father, (C3)from whom are all things, and we exist for Him; and (C4)one Lord, Jesus Christ, (C5)by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.
6 for us there is only one God—our Father. All things came from him, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord—Jesus Christ. All things were made through him, and we also were made through him.6 yet for us (C1)there is but one God, (C2)the Father, (F1)(C3)who is the source of all things, and we exist for Him; and (C4)one Lord, Jesus Christ, (C5)by whom are all things that have been created, and we believers exist and have life and have been redeemed through Him.
