Chapter 27
Grief over Tyre
1 Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,2 "And you, son of man, (C1)take up a song of mourning over Tyre;3 and say to Tyre, (C1)who sits at the (F1)entrance to the sea, (C2)merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, 'This is what the Lord (F2)GOD says: "Tyre, you have said, 'I am perfect in beauty.'
4 "Your borders are in the heart of the seas;
Your builders have perfected your beauty.
5 "They have (F1)made all your planks of juniper trees from (C1)Senir;
They have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.
6 "Of (C1)oaks from (C2)Bashan they have made your rudders;
With ivory they have (F1)inlaid your deck of boxwood from the coastlands of (C3)Cyprus.
7 "Your sail was of colorfully embroidered linen from Egypt
So that it became your flag;
Your (F1)awning was (C1)violet and purple from the coastlands of (C2)Elishah.
8 "The inhabitants of Sidon and (C1)Arvad were your rowers;
Your (C2)wise men, Tyre, were (F1)aboard; they were your sailors.
9 "The elders of (C1)Gebal and her wise men were with you repairing your leaks;
All the ships of the sea and their sailors were with you in order to deal in your merchandise.
10 "(C1)Persia, (C1)Lud, and (C1)Put were in your army, your men of war. They hung up shield and helmet on you; they presented your splendor.11 "The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls, all around, and the (F1)Gammadim were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.
12 "Tarshish was your customer because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they paid for your merchandise.13 "(C1)Javan, (C1)Tubal, and (C2)Meshech, they were your traders; with human (C3)lives and vessels of bronze they paid for your merchandise.14 "Those from (C1)Beth-togarmah gave horses, war horses, and mules for your merchandise.15 "The sons of (C1)Dedan were your traders. Many coastlands were (F1)your market; they brought (C2)ivory tusks and ebony as your payment.16 "(C1)Aram was your customer because of the abundance of your (F1)goods; they paid for your merchandise with (F2)(C2)emeralds, purple, (C3)colorfully woven cloth, fine linen, coral, and rubies.17 "Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traders; with the wheat of (C1)Minnith, (F1)cakes, honey, oil, and balsam they paid for your merchandise.18 "(C1)Damascus was your customer because of the abundance of your (F1)goods, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth, because of the wine of Helbon and white wool.19 "Vedan and Javan paid for your merchandise from Uzal; wrought iron, cassia, and spice reed were among your merchandise.20 "(C1)Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding.21 "(C1)Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were (F1)your customers for (C2)lambs, rams, and goats; for these they were your customers.22 "The traders of (C1)Sheba and Raamah, they traded with you; they paid for your merchandise with the best of all (C2)balsam oil, and with all kinds of precious stones, and gold.23 "Haran, Canneh, (C1)Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you.24 "They traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of violet and colorfully woven cloth, and in blankets of two colors, and tightly wound cords, which were among your merchandise.25 "The (C1)ships of Tarshish were (F1)the carriers for your merchandise. And you were filled and were very (F2)glorious
In the heart of the seas.
26 "Your rowers have brought you
Into (C1)great waters;
The (C2)east wind has broken you
In the heart of the seas.
27 "Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise,
Your seamen and your sailors,
Your repairers of leaks, your dealers in merchandise,
And all your men of war who are in you,
With all your contingent that is in your midst,
Will fall into the heart of the seas
On the day of your overthrow.
28 "At the sound of the cry of your sailors,
The pasture lands will (C1)shake.
29 "All who handle the oar,
The (C1)seamen and all the sailors of the sea
Will come down from their ships;
They will stand on the land,
30 And they will (C1)make their voice heard over you
And cry out bitterly.
They will (C2)throw dust on their heads,
They will (C3)wallow in ashes.
31 "Also they will shave themselves (C1)bald for you
And (C2)put on sackcloth;
And they will (C3)weep for you in bitterness of soul
With bitter mourning.
32 "Moreover, in their wailing they will take up a (C1)song of mourning for you
And sing a song of mourning over you:
'Who is like Tyre,
Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea?
33 'When your merchandise went out from the seas,
You satisfied many peoples;
With the (C1)abundance of your wealth and your merchandise
You enriched the kings of the earth.
34 '(F1)Now that you are (C1)broken by the seas
In the depths of the waters,
Your (C2)merchandise and all your company
Have fallen in the midst of you.
35 'All the (C1)inhabitants of the coastlands
Are appalled at you,
And their kings are horribly afraid;
They (F1)have a troubled look.
36 'The merchants among the peoples (C1)hiss at you;
You have become (F1)terrified
And you (C2)will cease to be forever.'"'"
Chapter 28
Tyre's King Overthrown
1 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,2 "Son of man, say to the (F1)leader of Tyre, 'The Lord (F2)GOD says this: "Because your heart is haughty
And you have said, '(C1)I am a god,
I sit in the seat of (F3)gods
In the heart of the seas';
Yet you are a (C2)mortal and not God,
Although you make your heart like the heart of God—
3 Behold, you are wiser than (C1)Daniel;
There is no secret that is a match for you!
4 "By your wisdom and understanding
You have acquired (C1)riches for yourself
And have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.
5 "By your great wisdom, by your (C1)trade
You have increased your riches,
And your (C2)heart is haughty because of your riches—
'Because you have (C1)made your heart
Like the heart of God,
7 Therefore, behold, I am going to bring (C1)strangers against you,
The (C2)most ruthless of the nations.
And they will draw their swords
Against the beauty of your wisdom
And profane your splendor.
8 'They will bring you down to the pit,
And you will die the (C1)death of those who are killed
In the heart of the seas.
9 'Will you still say, "I am a god,"
In the presence of one who kills you,
Though you are a mortal and not God,
In the hands of those who wound you?
10 'You will die the death of the (C1)uncircumcised
By the hand of strangers,
For I have spoken!' declares the Lord GOD!"'"
11 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,12 "Son of man, (C1)take up a song of mourning over the king of Tyre and say to him, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: "You (F1)had the seal of (F2)perfection,
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 "You were in (C1)Eden, the garden of God;
(C2)Every precious stone was your covering:
The (C3)ruby, the topaz and the diamond;
The beryl, the onyx and the jasper;
The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald;
And the gold, the workmanship of your (F1)(C4)settings and (F2)sockets,
Was in you.
On the day that you were created
They were prepared.
14 "You were the (C1)anointed cherub who (F1)covers,
And I placed you there.
You were on the holy (C2)mountain of God;
You walked in the midst of the (C3)stones of fire.
15 "You were (C1)blameless in your ways
From the day you were created
Until (C2)unrighteousness was found in you.
16 "By the (C1)abundance of your trade
(F1)You were internally (C2)filled with violence,
And you sinned;
Therefore I have cast you as profane
From the mountain of God.
And I have destroyed you, you (F2)covering cherub,
From the midst of the stones of fire.
17 "Your heart was haughty because of your (C1)beauty;
You (C2)corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.
I threw you to the ground;
I put you before (C3)kings,
That they may see you.
18 "By the multitude of your wrongdoings,
In the unrighteousness of your trade
You profaned your sanctuaries.
Therefore I have brought (C1)fire from the midst of you;
It has consumed you,
And I have turned you to (C2)ashes on the earth
In the eyes of all who see you.
19 "All who know you among the peoples
Are appalled at you;
You have become (F1)(C1)terrified
And you will cease to be (C2)forever."'"
Judgment of Sidon
20 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,21 "Son of man, (C1)set your face toward (C2)Sidon, prophesy against her22 and say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: "Behold, I am against you, Sidon,
And I will appear in My glory in your midst.
Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I (C1)execute judgments against her,
And I will reveal Myself as holy in her.
23 "For (C1)I will send a plague to her
And blood to her streets,
And the (C2)wounded will (F1)fall in her midst
By the sword upon her on every side;
Then they will know that I am the LORD.
Israel Regathered
25 'This is what the Lord GOD says: "When I (C1)gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and show Myself holy among them in the sight of the nations, then they will (C2)live on their land which I gave to My servant Jacob.26 "They will (C1)live on it securely; and they will (C2)build houses, plant vineyards, and live securely when I (C3)execute judgments upon all around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God."'"
Isaiah 54
Chapter 54
The Fertility of Zion
1 "(C1)Shout for joy, infertile one, you who have not given birth to any child;
Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor;
For the sons of the (C2)desolate one will be (C3)more numerous
Than the sons of the married woman," says the LORD.
2 "(C1)Enlarge the place of your tent;
(F1)Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not spare them;
Lengthen your (C2)ropes
And strengthen your (C2)pegs.
3 "For you will (C1)spread out to the right and to the left.
And your (F1)descendants will (C2)possess nations
And will (C3)resettle the desolate cities.
4 "Fear not, for you will (C1)not be put to shame;
And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;
But you will forget the (C2)shame of your youth,
And no longer remember the (C3)disgrace of your widowhood.
5 "For your (C1)husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the LORD of armies;
And your (C2)Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the (C3)God of all the earth.
6 "For the LORD has called you,
Like a wife (C1)forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Even like a wife of one's youth when she is rejected,"
Says your God.
7 "(F1)For a (C1)brief moment I abandoned you,
But with great compassion I will (C2)gather you.
8 "In an (F1)(C1)outburst of anger
I hid My face from you for a moment,
But with everlasting (C2)favor I will (C3)have compassion on you,"
Says the LORD your (C4)Redeemer.
9 "For (F1)this is like the days of Noah to Me,
When I swore that the waters of Noah
Would (C1)not (F2)flood the earth again;
So I have sworn that I will (C2)not be angry with you
Nor rebuke you.
10 "For the (C1)mountains may be removed and the hills may shake,
But My (F1)favor will not be removed from you,
Nor will My (C2)covenant of peace be shaken,"
Says (C3)the LORD who has compassion on you.
11 "(C1)Afflicted one, storm-tossed, and (C2)not comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
And I will (C3)lay your foundations with (F1)(C4)sapphires.
12 "Moreover, I will make your battlements of (F1)rubies,
And your gates of (F2)crystal,
And your entire (F3)wall of precious stones.
13 "(C1)All your sons will be (F1)taught by the LORD;
And the well-being of your sons will be (C2)great.
14 "In (C1)righteousness you will be established;
You will be far from (C2)oppression, for you will (C3)not fear;
And from (C4)terror, for it will not come near you.
15 "If anyone fiercely attacks you, it will not be from Me.
(C1)Whoever attacks you will fall because of you.
16 "Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals
And produces a weapon for its work;
And I have created the destroyer to inflict ruin.
17 "(C1)No weapon that is formed against you will succeed;
And you will condemn (C2)every tongue that (F1)accuses you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
And their (C3)vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.
Colossians 1:24-2:19
Chapter 1
24 (C1)Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh (C2)I am supplementing what is lacking (F1)in Christ's afflictions in behalf of (C3)His body, which is the church.25 (C1)I (F1)was made a minister of this church according to the (C2)commission from God granted to me for your benefit, so that I might (F2)fully carry out the preaching of the word of God,26 that is, (C1)the mystery which had been hidden from the past ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His (F1)saints,27 to whom (C1)God willed to make known what (C2)the wealth of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles is, the mystery that is (C3)Christ in you, the (C4)hope of glory.28 We proclaim Him, (C1)admonishing every person and teaching every person (F1)with all (C2)wisdom, so that we may (C3)present every person (F2)(C4)complete in Christ.29 For this purpose I also (C1)labor, (C2)striving (C3)according to His (F1)power which (F2)works mightily within me.
Chapter 2
You Are Built Up in Christ
1 For I want you to know how great a (C1)struggle I have in your behalf and for those who are at (C2)Laodicea, and for all those who have not (F1)personally seen my face,2 that their (C1)hearts may be encouraged, having been (C2)knit together in love, and that they would attain to all (C3)the wealth (F1)that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a (C4)true knowledge of (C5)God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself,3 in whom are hidden all (C1)the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.4 (C1)I say this so that no one will deceive you with (C2)persuasive arguments.5 For even though I am (C1)absent in body, I am nevertheless with you in spirit, rejoicing (F1)to see (F2)your (C2)orderly manner and the (C3)stability of your faith in Christ.
6 Therefore, as you have received (C1)Christ Jesus the Lord, so (F1)(C2)walk in Him,7 having been firmly (C1)rooted and now being (C2)built up in Him and (C3)established (F1)in (F2)your faith, just as you (C4)were instructed, and overflowing (F3)with gratitude.
8 (C1)See to it that there is no one who takes you captive through (C2)philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition, in accordance with the (C3)elementary principles of the world, (F1)rather than in accordance with Christ.9 For in Him all the (C1)fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,10 and in Him you have been (C1)made (F1)complete, and (C2)He is the head (F2)over every (C3)ruler and authority;11 and in Him (C1)you were also circumcised with a circumcision performed without hands, in the removal of (C2)the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ,12 having been (C1)buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also (C2)raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who (C3)raised Him from the dead.13 And (F1)when you were (C1)dead (F2)in your wrongdoings and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He (C2)made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our wrongdoings,14 having canceled (C1)the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and (C2)He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.15 When He had (F1)(C1)disarmed the (C2)rulers and authorities, He (C1)made a public display of them, having (C3)triumphed over them through (F2)Him.
16 Therefore, no one is to (F1)(C1)act as your judge in regard to (C2)food and (C2)drink, or in respect to a (C3)festival or a (C4)new moon, or a (C5)Sabbath (F2)day—17 things which are only a (C1)shadow of what is to come; but the (F1)substance (F2)belongs to Christ.18 Take care that no one keeps (F1)(C1)defrauding you of your prize by (C2)delighting in humility and the worship of the angels, (F2)taking his stand on visions he has seen, (F3)(C3)inflated without cause by his (C4)fleshly mind,19 and not holding firmly to (C1)the head, from whom (C2)the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and (F1)ligaments, grows with a growth (F2)which is from God.<
