Ezekiel 10-11

Chapter 10

Vision of God's Glory Departing from the Temple

1 Then I looked, and behold, in the (F1)(C1)expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim something like a (C2)sapphire stone, in appearance resembling a (C3)throne, appeared above them.2 And He spoke to the man clothed in linen and said, "Enter between the (C1)whirling wheels under the (F1)cherubim and fill your hands with (C2)coals of fire from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city." And he entered in my sight.

3 Now the cherubim were standing on the right side of the (F1)temple when the man entered, and the cloud filled the (C1)inner courtyard.4 Then the (C1)glory of the LORD went up from the cherub to the threshold of the temple, and the (C2)temple was filled with the cloud, and the courtyard was filled with the (C3)brightness of the glory of the LORD.5 Moreover, the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer courtyard, like the (C1)voice of (F1)God Almighty when He speaks.

6 And it came about when He commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, "Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim," he entered and stood beside a wheel.7 Then the cherub reached out with his hand from between the cherubim to the fire which was between the cherubim, took some coals and put them into the hands of the one clothed in linen; and he took them and went out.8 The cherubim appeared to have something like a human hand under their wings.

9 Then I looked, and behold, (C1)four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was like the gleam of a (F1)(C2)Tarshish stone.10 And as for their appearance, all four of them had the same likeness, as if one wheel were within another wheel.11 When they moved, they went (C1)in any of their four (F1)directions without turning as they went; but they followed in the direction which (F2)they faced, without turning as they went.12 And their (C1)whole body, their backs, their hands, their wings and the (C2)wheels were (F1)covered with eyes all around, the wheels belonging to all four of them.13 The wheels were called, (F1)as I heard, the (F2)whirling wheels.14 And (C1)each one had four faces. The first face was the face of a cherub, the second face was the face of a human, the third, the face of a lion, and the fourth, the face of an eagle.

15 Then the cherubim rose up. They are the (C1)living beings that I saw by the river Chebar.16 Now when the cherubim moved, the wheels would move beside them; also when the cherubim lifted up their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels themselves would not turn away from beside them.17 When (F1)the cherubim (C1)stood still, (F1)the wheels would stand still; and when they rose up, (F1)the wheels would rise with them, because the spirit of the living beings was in them.

18 Then the glory of the LORD departed from the threshold of the temple and stood (C1)over the cherubim.19 When (C1)the cherubim departed, they lifted their wings and rose up from the ground in my sight with the wheels beside them; and they stood still at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD'S house, and the glory of the God of Israel (F1)hovered over them.

20 These are the (C1)living beings that I saw beneath the God of Israel by (C2)the river Chebar; so I knew that they were cherubim.21 (C1)Each one had four faces and each one four wings, and beneath their wings was the form of human hands.22 As for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the river Chebar. Each one went straight ahead.

Chapter 11

Evil Rulers to Be Judged

1 Now the (C1)Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the LORD'S house which faced eastward. And behold, there were twenty-five men at the entrance of the gate, and among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and (C2)Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.2 Then He said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who devise wrongdoing and (C1)give evil advice in this city,3 who say, 'The time is not near to build houses. (F1)This (C1)city is the pot and we are the meat.'4 "Therefore, (C1)prophesy against them, prophesy, son of man!"

5 Then the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and He said to me, "Say, 'This is what the LORD says: "This is how you think, house of Israel, for (C1)I know (F1)your (C2)thoughts.6 "You have (C1)multiplied your slain in this city, and filled its streets with (F1)them."7 'Therefore, this is what the Lord (F1)GOD says: "Your (C1)slain whom you have laid in the midst of (F2)the city are the meat and this city is the pot; but (F3)I will (C2)bring you out of it.8 "You have (C1)feared a sword; so I will (C2)bring a sword upon you," the Lord GOD declares.9 "And I will bring you out of the midst of (F1)the city, and hand you over to (C1)strangers, and (C2)execute judgments against you.10 "You will (C1)fall by the sword. I will judge you to the (C2)border of Israel; so you shall know that I am the LORD.11 "This city will (C1)not be a pot for you, nor will you be meat in the midst of it; I will judge you to the border of Israel.12 "So you will know that I am the LORD; for you have not walked in My statutes, nor have you (C1)executed My ordinances, but you have acted in accordance with the ordinances of the (C2)nations around you."'"

13 Now it came about, as I prophesied, that (C1)Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell on my face and cried out with a loud voice, and said, "(C2)Oh, Lord GOD! Will You bring the remnant of Israel to a complete destruction?"

Promise of Restoration

14 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,15 "Son of man, your brothers, your relatives, (F1)your fellow exiles, and the entire house of Israel, all of them, are those to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, 'Keep far from the LORD; this land has been given (C1)to us as a possession.'16 "Therefore say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: "Though I had removed them far away among the nations, and though I had scattered them among the countries, yet I was a (C1)sanctuary for them for a little while in the countries where they had gone."'17 "Therefore say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: "I will (C1)gather you from the peoples and assemble you from the countries among which you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel."'18 "When they come there, they will (C1)remove all its (C2)detestable things and all its abominations from it.19 "And I will (C1)give them one heart, and put a new spirit within (F1)them. And I will remove the (C2)heart of stone from their flesh and give them a (C3)heart of flesh,20 so that they may (C1)walk in My statutes, and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be (C2)My people, and I shall be their God.21 "(F1)But as for those whose hearts go after their (C1)detestable things and abominations, I will (F2)(C2)bring their conduct down on their heads," declares the Lord GOD.

22 Then the cherubim (C1)lifted up their wings with the wheels beside them, and (C2)the glory of the God of Israel (F1)hovered over them.23 The (C1)glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city and (C2)stood over the mountain which is east of the city.24 And the (C1)Spirit lifted me up and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God to (F1)Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen (F2)(C2)left me.25 And I (C1)told the exiles all the things that the LORD had shown me.

Isaiah 42

Chapter 42

God's Promise concerning His Servant

1 "(C1)Behold, My (C2)Servant, whom I (F1)uphold;
My (C3)chosen one in whom My (C4)soul delights.
I have put My (C5)Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth (C6)justice to the (F2)nations.

2 "He will not cry out nor raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.

3 "A bent reed He will not break off
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth (C1)justice.

4 "He will not be (C1)disheartened or crushed
Until He has established justice on the earth;
And the (C2)coastlands will wait expectantly for His (F1)law."

5 This is what God the LORD says,

Who (C1)created the heavens and (C2)stretched them out,
Who spread out the (C3)earth and its (F1)offspring,
Who (C4)gives breath to the people on it
And spirit to those who walk in it:

6 "I am the LORD, I have (C1)called You in righteousness,
I will also (C2)hold You by the hand and (C3)watch over You,
And I will appoint You as a (C4)covenant to the people,
As a (C5)light to the nations,

7 To (C1)open blind eyes,
To (C2)bring out prisoners from the dungeon
And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.

8 "(C1)I am the LORD, that is (C2)My name;
I will not give My (C3)glory to another,
Nor My praise to idols.

9 "Behold, the (C1)former things have come to pass,
Now I declare (C2)new things;
Before they sprout I proclaim them to you."

10 Sing to the LORD a (C1)new song,
Sing His praise from the (C2)end of the earth!
(C3)You who go down to the sea, and (C4)all that is in it;
You (C5)islands, and those who live on them.

11 Let the (C1)wilderness and its cities raise their voices,
The settlements which (C2)Kedar inhabits.
Let the inhabitants of (C3)Sela sing aloud,
Let them shout for joy from the tops of the (C4)mountains.

12 Let them (C1)give glory to the LORD
And declare His praise in the (C2)coastlands.

13 (C1)The LORD will go out like a warrior,
He will stir His (C2)zeal like a man of war.
He will shout, indeed, He will raise a war cry.
He will (C3)prevail against His enemies.

The Blindness of the People

14 "(C1)I have kept silent for a long time,
I have kept still and restrained Myself.
Now like a woman in labor I will groan,
I will both gasp and pant.

15 "I will (C1)lay waste the mountains and hills
And wither all their vegetation;
I will (C2)turn the rivers into coastlands
And dry up the ponds.

16 "I will (C1)lead those who are blind by a way they have not known,
In paths they have not known I will guide them.
I will (C2)turn darkness into light before them
And (C3)uneven land into plains.
These are the things I will do,
And I will (C4)not leave them undone."

17 They will be turned back and be (C1)utterly put to shame,
Who trust in (F1)idols,
Who say to cast metal images,
"You are our gods."

18 (C1)Hear, you who are deaf!
And look, you who are blind, so that you may see.

19 Who is blind but My (C1)servant,
Or so deaf as My (C2)messenger whom I send?
Who is so blind as one who is (F1)(C3)at peace with Me,
Or so blind as the servant of the LORD?

20 (C1)You have seen many things, but you do not retain them;
Your ears are open, but no one hears.

21 The LORD was pleased for His righteousness' sake
To make the Law (C1)great and glorious.

22 But this is a people plundered and pillaged;
All of them are (C1)trapped in (F1)caves,
Or are (C2)hidden away in prisons;
They have become plunder, with no one to save them,
And spoils with no one to say, "Give them back!"

23 Who among you will listen to this?
Who will pay attention and listen in the time to come?

24 Who gave Jacob up for spoils, and Israel to plunderers?
Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned,
And in whose ways they (C1)were not willing to walk,
And whose Law they did not (C2)obey?

25 So He poured out on him the heat of His anger
And the (C1)fierceness of battle;
And it set him aflame all around,
Yet he did not recognize it;
And it burned him, but he (F1)(C2)paid no attention.

Ephesians 4:1-16

Chapter 4

Unity of the Spirit

1 Therefore I, (C1)the prisoner of the Lord, (C2)urge you to (C3)walk in a manner worthy of the (C4)calling with which you have been (C5)called,2 with all (C1)humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another (C2)in love,3 being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the (C1)bond of peace.4 There is (C1)one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one (C2)hope of your calling;5 (C1)one Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 one God and Father of all (C1)who is over all and through all and in all.

7 But (C1)to each one of us (C2)grace was given (C3)according to the measure of Christ's gift.8 Therefore (F1)it says,

"(C1)WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH,
HE (C2)LED CAPTIVE THE CAPTIVES,
AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO PEOPLE."

9 (Now this expression, "He (C1)ascended," what (F1)does it mean except that He also (F2)had descended into (C2)the lower parts of the earth?10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended (C1)far above all the heavens, so that He might (C2)fill all things.)11 And He (C1)gave (C2)some as apostles, some as prophets, some as (C3)evangelists, some as (F1)pastors and (C4)teachers,12 (C1)for the equipping of the (F1)saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of (C2)the body of Christ;13 until we all attain to (C1)the unity of the faith, and of the (F1)(C2)knowledge of the Son of God, to a (C3)mature man, to the measure of the stature (F2)which belongs to the (C4)fullness of Christ.14 (F1)As a result, we are (C1)no longer to be children, (C2)tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of people, by (C3)craftiness (F2)in (C4)deceitful scheming;15 but (F1)speaking the truth (C1)in love, (F2)we are to (C2)grow up in all aspects into Him who is the (C3)head, that is, Christ,16 from whom (C1)the whole body, being fitted and held together (F1)by what every joint supplies, according to the (F2)proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself (C2)in love.<
