Luke 24:24-53
Chapter 24
24 "And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see."25 And then He said to them, "(F1)You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that (C1)the prophets have spoken!26 "(C1)Was it not necessary for the (F1)Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?"27 Then beginning (F1)with (C1)Moses and (F1)with all the (C2)Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.
28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (C1)He gave the impression that He was going farther.29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day (F1)is now nearly over." So He went in to stay with them.30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (C1)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them.31 And then their (C1)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from (F1)their sight.32 They said to one another, "(F1)Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (C1)was (F2)explaining the Scriptures to us?"33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (C1)found the eleven gathered together and (C2)those who were with them,34 saying, "(C1)The Lord has really risen and (C2)has appeared to Simon!"35 They began to relate (F1)their experiences on the road, and how (C1)He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.
Other Appearances
36 Now while they were telling these things, (C1)Jesus Himself suddenly stood in their midst and (*)said to them, "Peace be to you."37 But they were startled and frightened, and thought that they were looking at (C1)a spirit.38 And He said to them, "Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your (F1)hearts?39 "(C1)See My hands and My feet, that (F1)it is I Myself; (C2)touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have."40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.41 While they still (F1)(C1)could not believe it because of their joy and astonishment, He said to them, "(C2)Have you anything here to eat?"42 They served Him a piece of broiled fish;43 and He took it and (C1)ate it in front of them.
44 Now He said to them, "(C1)These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the (C2)Law of Moses and the Prophets and (C3)the Psalms must be fulfilled."45 Then He (C1)opened their (F1)minds to understand the Scriptures,46 and He said to them, "(C1)So it is written, that the (F1)Christ would suffer and (C2)rise from the dead on the third day,47 and that (C1)repentance (F1)for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed (F2)in His name to (C2)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.48 "You are (C1)witnesses of these things.49 "And behold, (C1)I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but (C2)you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
The Ascension
50 And He led them out as far as (C1)Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,53 and were continually in the temple (F1)praising God.
John 1:1-2:11
Chapter 1
The Deity of Jesus Christ
1 (C1)In the beginning was (C2)the Word, and the Word was (C3)with God, and (C4)the Word was God.2 (F1)He was in the beginning with God.3 (C1)All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him (F1)not even one thing came into being that has come into being.4 (C1)In Him was life, and the life was (C2)the Light of mankind.5 And (C1)the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not (F1)grasp it.
The Witness John the Baptist
6 A man (F1)came, one sent from God, and his name was (C1)John.7 (F1)He came (F2)(C1)as a witness, to testify about the Light, (C2)so that all might believe through him.8 (F1)(C1)He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9 (F1)This was (C1)the true Light (F2)that, coming into the world, enlightens every person.10 He was in the world, and (C1)the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not (F1)know Him.11 He came to His (F1)own, and His own people did not (F2)accept Him.12 But (F1)as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become (C1)children of God, (C2)to those who (F2)believe in His name,13 (C1)who were (F1)born, not of (F2)blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.
The Word Made Flesh
14 And (C1)the Word (C2)became flesh, and (C3)dwelt among us; and (C4)we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of (C5)grace and (C6)truth.15 John (*)(C1)testified about Him and called out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '(C2)He who is coming after me has proved to be (F1)my superior, (C3)because He existed before me.'"16 For of His (C1)fullness (F1)we have all received, and (F2)grace upon grace.17 For (C1)the Law was given through Moses; (C2)grace and (C3)truth (F1)were realized through Jesus Christ.18 (C1)No one has seen God at any time; (C2)God the only Son, who is (C3)in the (F1)arms of the Father, (C4)He has (F2)explained Him.
The Testimony of John the Baptist
19 This is (C1)the testimony of John, when (C2)the Jews sent priests and Levites to him (C3)from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"20 And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed: "(C1)I am not the (F1)Christ."21 And so they asked him, "What then? Are you (C1)Elijah?" And he (*)said, "I am not." "Are you (C2)the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."22 Then they said to him, "Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"23 He said, "I am (C1)THE VOICE OF ONE CALLING (F1)OUT IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE THE WAY OF THE LORD STRAIGHT,' as Isaiah the prophet said."
24 And the messengers had been sent from the Pharisees.25 They asked him, and said to him, "Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the (F1)Christ, nor Elijah, nor (C1)the Prophet?"26 John answered them, saying, "(C1)I baptize (F1)in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.27 "It is (C1)He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy even to untie the (C2)strap of His sandal."28 These things took place in Bethany (C1)beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing people.
29 The next day he (*)saw Jesus coming to him, and (*)said, "Behold, (C1)the Lamb of God who (C2)takes away the sin of the world!30 "This is He in behalf of whom I said, '(C1)After me is coming a Man who has proved to be (F1)my superior, (C2)because He existed before me.'31 "And I did not recognize (F1)Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing (F2)in water."32 And John (C1)testified, saying, "(C2)I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.33 "And I did not recognize (F1)Him, but He who sent me to baptize (F2)in water said to me, 'He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, (C1)this is the One who baptizes (F2)in the Holy Spirit.'34 "And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is (C1)the (F1)Son of God."
Jesus' Public Ministry; First Converts
35 Again (C1)the next day John was standing (F1)with two of his disciples,36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and (*)said, "Behold, (C1)the Lamb of God!"37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and (*)said to them, "What are you seeking?" They said to Him, "(C1)Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?"39 He (*)said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the (F1)tenth hour.40 (C1)One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.41 He first (*)found his own brother Simon and (*)said to him, "We have found the (C1)Messiah" (which translated means (F1)Christ).42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of (F1)(C1)John; you shall be called (C2)Cephas" (which is translated (F2)(C3)Peter).
43 (C1)The next day He (F1)decided to go to (C2)Galilee, and He (*)found (C3)Philip. And Jesus (*)said to him, "(C4)Follow Me."44 Now (C1)Philip was from (C2)Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.45 (C1)Philip (*)found (C2)Nathanael and (*)said to him, "We have found Him of whom (C3)Moses wrote in the Law, and (C3)the prophets also wrote: Jesus (C4)the son of Joseph, from (C5)Nazareth!"46 Nathanael said to him, "(C1)Can anything good be from Nazareth?" (C2)Philip (*)said to him, "Come and see."47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and (*)said of him, "Here is truly an (C1)Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!"48 Nathanael (*)said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before (C1)Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."49 Nathanael answered Him, "(C1)Rabbi, You are (C2)the Son of God; You are the (C3)King of Israel!"50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these."51 And He (*)said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see (C1)heaven opened and (C2)the angels of God ascending and descending on (C3)the Son of Man."
Chapter 2
Miracle at Cana
1 On (C1)the third day there was a wedding in (C2)Cana of Galilee, and the (C3)mother of Jesus was there;2 and both Jesus and His (C1)disciples were invited to the wedding.3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus (*)said to Him, "They have no wine."4 And Jesus (*)said to her, "(F1)(C1)What business do you have with Me, (C2)woman? (C3)My hour has not yet come."5 His (C1)mother (*)said to the servants, "Whatever He tells you, do it."6 Now there were six stone waterpots standing there (C1)for the Jewish custom of purification, containing (F1)two or three measures each.7 Jesus (*)said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." So they filled them up to the brim.8 And He (*)said to them, "Draw some out now and take it to the (F1)headwaiter." And they took it to him.9 Now when the headwaiter tasted the water (C1)which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter (*)called the groom,10 and (*)said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first, and when the guests (C1)are drunk, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now."11 This beginning of His (F1)(C1)signs Jesus did in Cana of (C2)Galilee, and revealed His (C3)glory; and His disciples believed in Him.<
