Isaiah 27-28

Chapter 27

God's Blessings for Israel

1 On that day (C1)the LORD will punish (F1)(C2)Leviathan the fleeing serpent,
With His fierce and great and mighty sword,
Even (F1)Leviathan the twisted serpent;
And (C3)He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

2 On that day,
"A (F1)(C1)vineyard of beauty, sing of it!

3 "I, the LORD, am its keeper;
(C1)I water it every moment.
So that no one will (F1)damage it,
I (C2)guard it night and day.

4 "I have no wrath.
Should (F1)someone give Me (C1)briars and thorns in battle,
Then I would step on them, (C2)I would burn them (F2)completely.

5 "Or let him (F1)(C1)rely on My protection,
Let him make peace with Me,
Let him (C2)make peace with Me."

6 (F1)In the days to come Jacob (C1)will take root,
Israel will (C2)blossom and sprout,
And they will fill the (F2)whole world with (C3)fruit.

7 Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has (C1)He struck them?
Or like the slaughter of His slain, (F1)have they been slain?

8 You contended with them (F1)by banishing them, by (C1)driving them away.
With His fierce wind He has expelled them on the day of the (C2)east wind.

9 Therefore through this Jacob's wrongdoing will be (C1)forgiven;
And this will be (F1)the full price of the (F2)(C2)pardoning of his sin:
When he makes all the (C3)altar stones like pulverized chalk stones;
When (F3)Asherim and incense altars will not stand.

10 For the fortified city is (C1)isolated,
A (F1)homestead deserted and abandoned like the desert;
(C2)There the calf will graze,
And there it will lie down and (F2)feed on its branches.

11 When its (C1)limbs are dry, they are broken off;
Women come and make a fire with them,
For they are not a people of (C2)discernment,
Therefore (C3)their Maker (C4)will not have compassion on them.
And their Creator will not be gracious to them.

12 On that day the LORD (C1)will thresh from the flowing stream of the (C2)Euphrates River to the brook of Egypt, and you will be (C3)gathered up one by one, you sons of Israel.13 It will come about also on that day that a great (C1)trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of (C2)Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and (C3)worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.

Chapter 28

Ephraim's Captivity Predicted

1 Woe to the proud crown of the (C1)habitually drunk of (C2)Ephraim,
And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
Which is at the head of the (F1)fertile valley
Of those who are (F2)overcome with wine!

2 Behold, the Lord has a strong and (C1)mighty agent;
As a storm of (C2)hail, a tempest of destruction,
Like a storm of (C3)mighty overflowing waters,
He has thrown it down to the earth with His hand.

3 The splendid crown of the habitually drunk of Ephraim is (C1)trampled underfoot.

4 And the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
Which is at the head of the (F1)fertile valley,
Will be like the (C1)first-ripe fig prior to the summer,
Which (F2)one sees,
And (F3)as soon as it is in his (F4)hand,
He swallows it.

5 On that day the (C1)LORD of armies will become a beautiful (C2)crown
And a glorious wreath to the remnant of His people;

6 A (C1)spirit of justice for him who sits in judgment,
A (C2)strength to those who repel the (F1)onslaught at the gate.

7 And these also (C1)reel with wine and stagger from intoxicating drink:
(C2)The priest and (C3)the prophet reel with intoxicating drink,
They are confused by wine, they stagger from (C4)intoxicating drink;
They reel while (F1)having (C5)visions,
They stagger when rendering a verdict.

8 For all the tables are full of filthy (C1)vomit, without a single clean place.

9 "To (C1)whom would He teach knowledge,
And to whom would He interpret the message?
Those just (C2)weaned from milk?
Those just taken from the breast?

10 "For He says,
'(F1)(C1)Order on order, order on order,
Line on line, line on line,
A little here, a little there.'"

11 Indeed, He will speak to this people
Through (C1)stammering lips and a foreign tongue,

12 He who said to them, "This is the (C1)place of quiet, give rest to the weary,"
And, "This is the resting place," but they would not listen.

13 So the word of the LORD to them will be,
"(F1)Order on order, order on order,
Line on line, line on line,
A little here, a little there,"
That they may go and (C1)stumble backward, be broken, snared, and taken captive.

Judah Is Warned

14 Therefore, (C1)hear the word of the LORD, you (C2)scoffers,
Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem,

15 Because you have said, "We have made a (C1)covenant with death,
And with (F1)Sheol we have made a (F2)pact.
(C2)The (F3)gushing flood will not reach us when it passes by,
Because we have made (C3)falsehood our refuge and we have (C4)concealed ourselves with deception."

16 Therefore this is what the Lord (F1)GOD says:

"(C1)Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a tested (C2)stone,
A precious cornerstone for the foundation, (F2)firmly placed.
The one who believes in it will not be (F3)disturbed.

17 "I will make (C1)justice the measuring line
And righteousness the level;
Then (C2)hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
And the waters will overflow the secret place.

18 "Your (C1)covenant with death will be (F1)(C2)canceled,
And your pact with Sheol will not stand;
When the (F2)(C1)gushing flood passes through,
Then you will become its (C3)trampling ground.

19 "As (C1)often as it passes through, it will (F1)seize you;
For (C2)morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night,
And it will be (F2)sheer (C3)terror to understand (F3)what it means."

20 The bed is too short on which to stretch out,
And the (C1)blanket is too (F1)small to wrap oneself in.

21 For the LORD will rise up as at Mount (C1)Perazim,
He will be stirred up as in the Valley of (C2)Gibeon,
To do His (C3)task, His (F1)(C4)unusual task,
And to work His work, His (F2)extraordinary work.

22 And now do not carry on as (C1)scoffers,
Or your shackles will be made stronger;
For I have heard from the Lord (F1)GOD of armies
Of decisive (C2)destruction on all the earth.

23 Listen and hear my voice,
Pay attention and hear my words.

24 Does the (F1)farmer plow (F2)continually to plant seed?
Does he continually (F3)turn and break up his ground?

25 Does he not level its surface
And sow dill and scatter (C1)cumin
And (F1)plant (C2)wheat in rows,
Barley in its place and rye within its (F2)area?

26 For his God instructs and teaches him properly.

27 For dill is not threshed with a (C1)threshing sledge,
Nor is the cartwheel (F1)driven over cumin;
But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a club.

28 Grain for bread is crushed,
Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever.
Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually (F1)damage it,
He does not thresh it longer.

29 This also comes from the LORD of armies,
Who has made His counsel (C1)wonderful and His wisdom (C2)great.

Psalms 118

Chapter 118

Thanksgiving for the LORD'S Saving Goodness.

1 (C1)Give thanks to the LORD, for (C2)He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.

2 Let (C1)Israel say,
"His mercy is everlasting."

3 Oh let the (C1)house of Aaron say,
"His mercy is everlasting."

4 Let those (C1)who (F1)fear the LORD say,
"His mercy is everlasting."

5 From my (C1)distress I called upon (F1)the LORD;
(F1)The LORD answered me and (C2)put me in an open space.

6 The LORD is (C1)for me; I will (C2)not fear;
(C3)What can man do to me?

7 The LORD is for me (C1)among those who help me;
Therefore I will (C2)look with satisfaction on those who hate me.

8 It is (C1)better to take refuge in the LORD
Than to trust in people.

9 It is (C1)better to take refuge in the LORD
Than to trust in noblemen.

10 All nations (C1)surrounded me;
In the name of the LORD I will certainly (C2)fend them off.

11 They (C1)surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
In the name of the LORD I will certainly fend them off.

12 They surrounded me (C1)like bees;
They were extinguished like a (C2)fire of thorn bushes;
In the name of the LORD I will certainly fend them off.

13 You (C1)pushed me violently so that I (F1)was falling,
But the LORD (C2)helped me.

14 (F1)(C1)The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become (C2)my salvation.

15 The sound of (C1)joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous;
The (C2)right hand of the LORD performs valiantly.

16 The (C1)right hand of the LORD is exalted;
The right hand of the LORD performs valiantly.

17 I (C1)will not die, but live,
And (C2)tell of the works of (F1)the LORD.

18 (F1)The LORD has (C1)disciplined me severely,
But He has (C2)not turned me over to death.

19 (C1)Open the gates of righteousness to me;
I will enter through them, I will give thanks to (F1)the LORD.

20 This is the gate of the LORD;
The (C1)righteous will enter through it.

21 I will give thanks to You, for You have (C1)answered me,
And You have (C2)become my salvation.

22 A (C1)stone which the builders rejected
Has become the (F1)chief cornerstone.

23 This came about from the LORD;
It is marvelous in our eyes.

24 This is the day which the LORD has made;
Let's (C1)rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Please, O LORD, (C1)do save us;
Please, O LORD, do send (C2)prosperity!

26 (C1)Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD;
We have (C2)blessed you from the house of the LORD.

27 (C1)The LORD is God, and He has given us (C2)light;
Bind the festival sacrifice (F1)to the (C3)horns of the altar with cords.

28 (C1)You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, (C2)I exalt You.

29 (C1)Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.

2 Thessalonians 2

Chapter 2

Man of Lawlessness

1 Now we ask you, (C1)brothers and sisters, regarding the (F1)(C2)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our (C3)gathering together to Him,2 that you not be quickly shaken from your (F1)composure or be disturbed either by a (C1)spirit, or a (F2)(C2)message, or a (C3)letter as if from us, to the effect that (C4)the day of the Lord (C5)has come.3 (C1)No one is to deceive you in any way! For it will not come unless the (F1)(C2)apostasy comes first, and the (C3)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (C4)son of destruction,4 who opposes and exalts himself above (F1)(C1)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (C2)displaying himself as being God.5 Do you not remember that (C1)while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?6 And you know (C1)what restrains him now, so that he will be revealed in his time.7 For (C1)the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only (F1)(C2)He who now restrains will do so until (F1)He is (F2)removed.8 Then that lawless one (C1)will be revealed, whom the Lord will eliminate (C2)with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the (C3)appearance of His (F1)coming;9 that is, the one whose (F1)coming is in accord with the activity of (C1)Satan, with all power and false (F2)(C2)signs and wonders,10 and with (F1)all the deception of wickedness for (C1)those who perish, because they did not accept the love of (C2)the truth so as to be saved.11 For this reason (C1)God (F1)will send upon them (F2)a (C2)deluding influence so that they will believe (F3)what is false,12 in order that they all may be (F1)judged who (C1)did not believe the truth, but (F2)(C2)took pleasure in wickedness.

Stand Firm

13 (C1)But we should always give thanks to God for you, (C2)brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because (C3)God has chosen you (F1)from the beginning (C4)for salvation (F2)(C5)through sanctification (F3)by the Spirit and faith in the truth.14 It was for this He (C1)called you through (C2)our gospel, (F1)that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.15 So then, brothers and sisters, (C1)stand firm and (C2)hold on to the traditions which you were taught, whether (C3)by word of mouth or (C3)by letter (F1)from us.

16 (C1)Now may our Lord Jesus Christ (C1)Himself and God our Father, who has (C2)loved us and given us eternal comfort and (C3)good hope by grace,17 (C1)comfort and (C2)strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
