Isaiah 53,54,55

The Suffering Servant

1 (C1)Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 For He grew up before Him like a (C1)tender (F1)shoot,
And like a root out of dry ground;
He has (C2)no stately form or majesty
That we would look at Him,
Nor an appearance that we would take pleasure in Him.

3 He was (C1)despised and abandoned by men,
A man of (F1)great pain and (C2)familiar with sickness;
And like one from whom people hide their faces,
He was (C3)despised, and we had no (C4)regard for Him.

4 However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself (C1)bore,
And our pains that He carried;
Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted,
Struck down by (C2)God, and humiliated.

5 But He was (F1)pierced for (C1)our offenses,
He was crushed for (C2)our wrongdoings;
The (C3)punishment for our (F2)well-being was laid upon Him,
And by (C4)His wounds we are healed.

6 All of us, like sheep, have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the wrongdoing of us all
To (F1)fall on Him.

7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
Yet He did not (C1)open His mouth;
(C2)Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
And as for His generation, who considered
That He was cut off from the land of the (F1)living
(C1)For the wrongdoing of my people, to whom the blow was due?

9 And His grave was assigned with wicked men,
Yet He was with a (C1)rich man in His death,
(C2)Because He had (C3)done no violence,
Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

10 But the LORD desired
To (C1)crush Him, (F1)(C2)causing Him grief;
If He renders (F2)Himself as a guilt (C3)offering,
He will see (C4)His (F3)offspring,
He will prolong His days,
And the (F4)good (C5)pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.

11 As a result of the (F1)anguish of His soul,
He will (F2)(C1)see it and be satisfied;
By His (C2)knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
For He will (C3)bear their wrongdoings.

12 Therefore, I will allot Him a (C1)portion with the great,
And He will divide the plunder with the strong,
Because He poured out His (F1)(C2)life unto death,
And was (C3)counted with wrongdoers;
Yet He Himself (C4)bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the wrongdoers.

The Fertility of Zion

1 "(C1)Shout for joy, infertile one, you who have not given birth to any child;
Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor;
For the sons of the (C2)desolate one will be (C3)more numerous
Than the sons of the married woman," says the LORD.

2 "(C1)Enlarge the place of your tent;
(F1)Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not spare them;
Lengthen your (C2)ropes
And strengthen your (C2)pegs.

3 "For you will (C1)spread out to the right and to the left.
And your (F1)descendants will (C2)possess nations
And will (C3)resettle the desolate cities.

4 "Fear not, for you will (C1)not be put to shame;
And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;
But you will forget the (C2)shame of your youth,
And no longer remember the (C3)disgrace of your widowhood.

5 "For your (C1)husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the LORD of armies;
And your (C2)Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the (C3)God of all the earth.

6 "For the LORD has called you,
Like a wife (C1)forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Even like a wife of one's youth when she is rejected,"
Says your God.

7 "(F1)For a (C1)brief moment I abandoned you,
But with great compassion I will (C2)gather you.

8 "In an (F1)(C1)outburst of anger
I hid My face from you for a moment,
But with everlasting (C2)favor I will (C3)have compassion on you,"
Says the LORD your (C4)Redeemer.

9 "For (F1)this is like the days of Noah to Me,
When I swore that the waters of Noah
Would (C1)not (F2)flood the earth again;
So I have sworn that I will (C2)not be angry with you
Nor rebuke you.

10 "For the (C1)mountains may be removed and the hills may shake,
But My (F1)favor will not be removed from you,
Nor will My (C2)covenant of peace be shaken,"
Says (C3)the LORD who has compassion on you.

11 "(C1)Afflicted one, storm-tossed, and (C2)not comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
And I will (C3)lay your foundations with (F1)(C4)sapphires.

12 "Moreover, I will make your battlements of (F1)rubies,
And your gates of (F2)crystal,
And your entire (F3)wall of precious stones.

13 "(C1)All your sons will be (F1)taught by the LORD;
And the well-being of your sons will be (C2)great.

14 "In (C1)righteousness you will be established;
You will be far from (C2)oppression, for you will (C3)not fear;
And from (C4)terror, for it will not come near you.

15 "If anyone fiercely attacks you, it will not be from Me.
(C1)Whoever attacks you will fall because of you.

16 "Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals
And produces a weapon for its work;
And I have created the destroyer to inflict ruin.

17 "(C1)No weapon that is formed against you will succeed;
And you will condemn (C2)every tongue that (F1)accuses you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
And their (C3)vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.

The Free Offer of Mercy

1 "(F1)You there! Everyone who (C1)thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have (C2)no (F2)money come, buy and eat.
Come, buy (C3)wine and milk
(C4)Without money and without cost.

2 "Why do you (F1)spend money for what is (C1)not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and (C2)eat what is good,
And (C3)delight yourself in abundance.

3 "(C1)Incline your ear and come to Me.
Listen, that (F1)you may (C2)live;
And I will make (C3)an everlasting covenant with you,
According to the (C4)faithful mercies (F2)shown to David.

4 "Behold, I have made (C1)him a witness to the peoples,
A (C2)leader and commander for the peoples.

5 "Behold, you will call a (C1)nation you do not know,
And a nation which does not know you will (C2)run to you,
Because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel;
For He has (C3)glorified you."

6 (C1)Seek the LORD while He may be found;
(C2)Call upon Him while He is near.

7 (C1)Let the wicked abandon his way,
And the unrighteous person his (C2)thoughts;
And let him (C3)return to the LORD,
And He will have (C4)compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will (C5)abundantly pardon.

8 "For My thoughts are not (C1)your thoughts,
Nor are (C2)your ways My ways," declares the LORD.

9 "For (C1)as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 "For as the (C1)rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it produce and sprout,
And providing (C2)seed to the sower and bread to the eater;

11 So will My (C1)word be which goes out of My mouth;
It will (C2)not return to Me empty,
Without (C3)accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.

12 "For you will go out with (C1)joy
And be led in (C2)peace;
The (C3)mountains and the hills will break into shouts of joy before you,
And all the (C4)trees of the field will clap their hands.

13 "Instead of the (C1)thorn bush, the (C2)juniper will come up,
And instead of the (C3)stinging nettle, the myrtle will come up;
And (F1)it will be a (F2)(C4)memorial to the LORD,
An everlasting (C5)sign which (C6)will not be eliminated."

Romans 10

Chapter 10

The Word of Faith Brings Salvation

1 Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.2 For I testify about them that they have (C1)a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.3 For not knowing about (C1)God's righteousness and (C2)seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.4 For (C1)Christ is the (F1)end of the Law for righteousness to (C2)everyone who believes.

5 For Moses writes of the righteousness that is (F1)based on the Law, that the person who performs (F2)them (C1)will live by (F2)them.6 But (C1)the righteousness (F1)based on faith speaks as follows: "(C2)DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL GO UP INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down),7 or 'Who will descend into the (C1)abyss?' (that is, to (C2)bring Christ up from the dead)."8 But what does it say? "(C1)THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,9 (F1)that (C1)if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and (C2)believe in your heart that (C3)God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;10 for with the heart a person believes, (F1)resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, (F2)resulting in salvation.11 For the Scripture says, "(C1)WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE (F1)PUT TO SHAME."12 For (C1)there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is (C2)Lord of (C3)all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;13 for "(C1)EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

14 How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him (C1)whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without (C2)a preacher?15 But how are they to preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: "(C1)HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO (F1)(C2)BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"

16 However, they (C1)did not all heed the (F1)good news; for Isaiah says, "(C2)LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"17 So faith comes from (C1)hearing, and hearing by (C2)the word (F1)of Christ.

18 But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? On the contrary:

"(C1)THEIR VOICE HAS GONE OUT INTO ALL THE EARTH,
AND THEIR WORDS TO THE ENDS OF THE (F1)WORLD."

19 But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says,

"(C1)I WILL (C2)MAKE YOU JEALOUS WITH THOSE WHO ARE NOT A NATION,
WITH A FOOLISH NATION I WILL ANGER YOU."

20 And Isaiah is very bold and says,

"(C1)I WAS FOUND BY THOSE WHO DID NOT SEEK ME,
I REVEALED MYSELF TO THOSE WHO DID NOT ASK FOR ME."

21 But as for Israel, He says, "(C1)I HAVE SPREAD OUT MY HANDS ALL DAY LONG TO A DISOBEDIENT AND OBSTINATE PEOPLE."
