Daniel 11:14-12:13

Chapter 11

14 "Now in those times many will rise up against the king of the South; the violent ones among your people will also raise themselves up to fulfill the vision, but they will (F1)fall down.15 "Then the king of the North will come, pile up an (C1)assault ramp, and capture a well-fortified city; and the forces of the South will not stand their ground, not even (F1)their choicest troops, for there will be no strength to make a stand.16 "But he who comes against him will (C1)do as he pleases, and (C2)no one will be able to withstand him; he will also stay for a time in the (F1)(C3)Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand.17 "And he will (C1)set his (F1)mind on coming with the power of his entire kingdom, (F2)bringing with him (F3)a proposal of peace which he will put into effect; he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be (F4)on his side.18 "Then he will turn his face to the (C1)coastlands and capture many. But a commander will put a stop to his taunting against him; moreover, he will (C2)repay him for his taunting.19 "So he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will (C1)stumble and fall and not be (C2)found.

20 "Then in his place one will arise who will (C1)allow an (F1)oppressor to pass through the (F2)Jewel of his kingdom; yet within a few days he will be broken, though not in anger nor in battle.21 "And in his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the majesty of kingship has not been conferred; but he will come in a time of tranquility and (C1)seize the kingdom by intrigue.22 "And the overflowing (C1)forces will be flooded away from him and smashed, and also the prince of the covenant.23 "After an alliance is made with him he will practice deception, and he will go up and gain power with a small force of people.24 "(F1)In a time of tranquility he will enter the (C1)richest parts of the (F2)realm, and he will accomplish what his fathers did not, nor his (F3)ancestors; he will distribute plunder, spoils, and possessions among them, and he will devise his schemes against strongholds, but only for a time.25 "And he will stir up his strength and (F1)courage against the (C1)king of the South with a large army; so the king of the South will mobilize an extremely large and mighty army for war; but he will not stand, because schemes will be devised against him.26 "Those who eat his choice food will (F1)destroy him, and his army will (F2)(C1)overflow, but many will fall down slain.27 "As for both kings, their hearts will be intent on (C1)evil, and they will (C2)speak lies to each other at the same table; but it will not succeed, because the (C3)end is still to come at the appointed time.28 "Then he will return to his land with much (F1)plunder; but his heart will be set against the holy covenant, and he will take action and then return to his own land.

29 "At the appointed time he will return and come into the South, but (F1)this last time it will not turn out the way it did before.30 "For ships of (F1)(C1)Kittim will come against him; therefore he will withdraw in fear and will return and curse the holy covenant and take action; so he will come back and pay attention to those who abandon the holy covenant.31 "Forces from him will arise, (C1)desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the (C2)abomination (F1)of desolation.32 "And by (C1)smooth words he will (F1)turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will be (C2)strong and take action.33 "And (F1)(C1)those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many; yet they will (C2)fall by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder for many days.34 "Now when they fall they will be granted a little help, and many will (C1)join with them in (C2)hypocrisy.35 "And some of (F1)those who have insight will fall, to (C1)refine, (C2)purge, and (F2)(C3)cleanse them until the (C4)end time; because it is still to come at the appointed time.

36 "Then the king will (C1)do as he pleases, and he will exalt himself and (C2)boast against every god and will (C3)speak (F1)dreadful things against the (C4)God of gods; and he will be successful until the (C5)indignation is finished, because that which is (C6)determined will be done.37 "And he will show no regard for the (F1)gods of his fathers or for the (F2)desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will boast against them all.38 "But (F1)instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, precious stones, and treasures.39 "And he will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to (F1)those who acknowledge him and will make them rulers over the many, and will parcel out land for a price.

40 "And at the (C1)end time the (C2)king of the South will wage war with him, and the (C3)king of the North will (C4)storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he will enter countries, (C5)overflow them, and pass through.41 "He will also enter the (F1)(C1)Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, (C2)Moab, and the foremost of the sons of (C3)Ammon.42 "Then he will reach out with his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape.43 "But he will (F1)gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and (C1)Libyans and (C2)Ethiopians will follow at his (F2)heels.44 "But rumors from the East and from the North will terrify him, and he will go out with great wrath to eliminate and (F1)annihilate many.45 "And he will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful (C1)Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

Chapter 12

The Time of the End

1 "Now at that time (C1)Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a (C2)time of distress (C3)such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the (C4)book, will be rescued.2 "And (C1)many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, (C2)these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting (F1)contempt.3 "And (F1)those who have (C1)insight will (C2)shine like the glow of the (F2)expanse of heaven, and those who (F3)(C3)lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.4 "But as for you, Daniel, (C1)keep these words secret and (C2)seal up the book until the (C3)end of time; (C4)many will roam about, and knowledge will increase."

5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the stream and the other on that bank of the stream.6 And (C1)someone said to the man (C2)dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, "(C3)How long will it be until the end of these wonders?"7 And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, (F1)as he (C1)raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by (C2)Him who lives forever that it would be for a (F2)(C3)time, (F2)times, and half a (F2)time; and as soon as (F3)they finish (C4)smashing the (F4)power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.8 But as for me, I heard but did not understand; so I said, "My lord, what will be the (F1)outcome of these events?"9 And he said, "Go your way, Daniel, for these words will be kept secret and (C1)sealed up until the end time.10 "(C1)Many will be purged, (F1)cleansed, and refined, but the (C2)wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but (F2)those who (C3)have insight will understand.11 "And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the (C1)abomination (F1)of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days.12 "(C1)Blessed is the one who is patient and attains to the (C2)1,335 days!13 "But as for you, go your way to the (F1)end; then you will (C1)rest and (F2)rise for your (C2)allotted portion at the end of the (F3)age."

Hosea 1-3

Chapter 1

Hosea's Wife and Children

1 The word of the LORD which came to (C1)Hosea the son of Beeri, during the days of (C2)Uzziah, (C3)Jotham, (C4)Ahaz, and (C5)Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days of (C6)Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

2 When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, "(C1)Go, take for yourself a wife (F1)inclined to infidelity, and children of infidelity; for (C2)the land commits flagrant infidelity, (F2)abandoning the LORD."3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and (C1)bore him a son.4 And the LORD said to him, "Name him (C1)Jezreel; for in just a little while (C2)I will (F1)punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and (C3)I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.5 "On that day I will (C1)break the bow of Israel in the (C2)Valley of Jezreel."

6 Then she conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. And (F1)the LORD said to him, "Name her (F2)Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer (C1)take pity on the house of Israel, that I would ever forgive them.7 "But I will take (C1)pity on the house of Judah and (C2)save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by (C3)bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen."

8 When she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and gave birth to a son.9 And (F1)the LORD said, "Name him (F2)Lo-ammi, because you are not My people, and I am not (F3)your God."

10 (F1)Yet the number of the sons of Israel
Will be like the (C1)sand of the sea,
Which cannot be measured or counted;
And (C2)in the place
Where it is said to them,
"You are (C3)not My people,"
It will be said to them,
"You are the (C4)sons of the living God."

11 And the (C1)sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be (C2)gathered together,
And they will appoint for themselves (C3)one leader,
And they will go up from the land,
For the day of Jezreel will be great.

Chapter 2

Israel's Unfaithfulness Condemned

1 (F1)Say to your brothers, "(F2)Ammi," and to your sisters, "(F3)Ruhamah."

2 "Dispute with your mother, (C1)dispute,
Because she is (C2)not my wife, and I am not her husband;
But she must remove her (C3)infidelity from her face
And her adultery from between her breasts,

3 Otherwise, I will strip her (C1)naked
And expose her as on the (C2)day she was born.
I will also (C3)make her like a wilderness,
Make her like desert land,
And put her to death with (C4)thirst.

4 "Also, I will take no pity on her children,
Because they are (C1)children of infidelity.

5 "For their mother has (C1)committed prostitution;
She who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, '(C1)I will go after my lovers,
Who (C2)give me my bread and my water,
My wool and my flax, my (C3)oil and my drink.'

6 "Therefore, behold, I will (C1)obstruct (F1)her way with (C2)thorns,
And I will build (F2)a stone wall against her so that she cannot find her (C3)paths.

7 "And she will (C1)pursue her lovers, but she will not reach them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
Then she will say, '(C2)I will go back to my (C3)first husband,
Because it was (C4)better for me then than now!'

8 "Yet she does (C1)not know that it was (C2)I myself who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
And lavished on her silver and gold,
Which they (F1)used for Baal.

9 "Therefore, I will (F1)(C1)take back My grain at (F2)harvest time
And My new wine in its season.
I will also take away My wool and My flax
That I gave to cover her nakedness.

10 "So now I will (C1)uncover her (F1)lewdness
Before the eyes of her lovers,
And no one will rescue her from My hand.

11 "I will also (C1)put an end to all her joy,
Her (C2)feasts, her (C3)new moons, her Sabbaths,
And all her festivals.

12 "And I will (C1)destroy her vines and fig trees,
Of which she said, 'They are my wages for prostitution
Which my lovers have given me.'
And I will (C2)turn them into a forest,
And the (C3)animals of the field will devour them.

13 "I will punish her for the (C1)days of the Baals
When she used to (F1)(C2)offer sacrifices to them
And (C3)adorn herself with her nose ring and jewelry,
And follow her lovers, so that she (C4)forgot Me," declares the LORD.

Restoration of Israel

14 "Therefore, behold, I am going to persuade her,
(C1)Bring her into the wilderness,
And speak (F1)kindly to her.

15 "Then I will give her her (C1)vineyards from there,
And (C2)the (F1)Valley of Achor as a door of hope.
And she will (F2)(C3)respond there as in the days of her youth,
As in the (C4)day when she went up from the land of Egypt.

16 "And it will come about on that day," declares the LORD,
"That you will call Me (F1)(C1)my husband
And no longer call Me my (F2)Baal.

17 "For (C1)I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth,
So that they will no longer be (F1)mentioned by their names.

18 "On that day I will also make a covenant for them
With the (C1)animals of the field,
The birds of the sky,
And the crawling things of the ground.
And I will (F1)(C2)eliminate the bow, the sword, and war from the land,
And will let them (C3)lie down in safety.

19 "I will (C1)betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me in (C2)righteousness and in justice,
In favor and in compassion,

20 And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness.
Then you will (C1)know the LORD.

21 "And it will come about on that day that (C1)I will respond," declares the LORD.
"I will respond to the heavens, and they will respond to the earth,

22 And the (C1)earth will respond to the grain, to the new wine, and to the oil,
And they will respond to (F1)Jezreel.

23 "I will (C1)sow her for Myself in the land.
(C2)I will also have compassion on (F1)her who had not obtained compassion,
And (C3)I will say to (F2)those who were (C4)not My people,
'You are My people!'
And (F3)they will say, 'You are my God!'"

Chapter 3

Hosea's Redemption of Gomer

1 Then the LORD said to me, "Go again, love (F1)a woman who is loved by her (F2)husband, yet is committing adultery, (C1)as the LORD loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love (F3)raisin (C2)cakes."2 So I (C1)purchased her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and a (F1)homer and a (F2)lethech of barley.3 Then I said to her, "You shall (C1)live with me for many days. You shall not play the prostitute, nor shall you have another man; so I will also be toward you."4 For the sons of Israel will live for many days (C1)without a king or leader, (C2)without sacrifice or (C3)memorial stone, and without (C4)ephod or (F1)(C5)household idols.5 Afterward the sons of Israel will (C1)return and seek the LORD their God and (C2)David their king; and (C3)they will come trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days.
