2 Chronicles 30
Chapter 30
All Israel Invited to the Passover
1 Now Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to (F1)celebrate the Passover to the LORD God of Israel.2 For the king and his princes and all the assembly in Jerusalem had decided (C1)to celebrate the Passover in the second month,3 since they could not celebrate it (C1)at that time, because the priests had not consecrated themselves in sufficient numbers, nor had the people been gathered to Jerusalem.4 So the (F1)decision was right in the sight of the king and all the assembly.5 So they established a decree to circulate a (F1)proclamation throughout Israel (C1)from Beersheba to Dan, that they are to come to celebrate the Passover to the LORD God of Israel in Jerusalem. For they had not celebrated it in great numbers as was written.6 (C1)The (F1)couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with the letters from the hand of the king and his princes, even according to the command of the king, saying, "Sons of Israel, return to the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that He may return to those of you who escaped and are left from (C2)the (F2)hand of the kings of Assyria.7 "(C1)Do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were untrue to the LORD God of their fathers, so that (C2)He made them an object of horror, just as you see.8 "Now do not (C1)stiffen your neck like your fathers, but (F1)yield to the LORD and enter His sanctuary which He has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD your God, (C2)that His burning anger may turn away from you.9 "For (C1)if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your sons will find compassion in the presence of those who led them captive, and will return to this land. (C2)For the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him."
10 So the (F1)couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, and as far as Zebulun, but (C1)they laughed at them with scorn and mocked them.11 Nevertheless, (C1)some men of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.12 The (C1)hand of God was also on Judah to give them one heart to do what the king and the princes commanded by the word of the LORD.
Passover Reinstituted
13 Now many people were gathered at Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread (C1)in the second month, a very large assembly.14 They got up and removed the altars which were in Jerusalem; they also (C1)removed all the incense altars and (C2)threw them into the brook Kidron.15 Then (C1)they slaughtered the Passover lambs on the fourteenth of the second month. And (C2)the priests and Levites were ashamed of themselves, and consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings to the house of the LORD.16 (C1)They stood at their stations following their custom, according to the Law of Moses the man of God; the priests sprinkled the blood which they received from the hand of the Levites.17 For there were many in the assembly who had not consecrated themselves; therefore, (C1)the Levites were in charge of the slaughter of the Passover lambs for everyone who was unclean, in order to consecrate them to the LORD.18 For a multitude of the people, (C1)many from Ephraim and Manasseh, and Issachar and Zebulun, had not purified themselves, (C2)yet they ate the Passover (C3)contrary to what was written. For Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "May the good LORD pardon19 (C1)everyone who prepares his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though not according to the purification rules of the sanctuary."20 So the LORD heard Hezekiah and (C1)healed the people.21 The sons of Israel present in Jerusalem (C1)celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and the priests were praising the LORD day after day with loud instruments to the LORD.22 Then Hezekiah (C1)spoke (F1)encouragingly to all the Levites who showed good insight in the things of the LORD. So they ate for the appointed seven days, sacrificing peace offerings and (C2)giving thanks to the LORD God of their fathers.
23 Then the whole assembly (C1)decided to celebrate the feast another seven days, so they celebrated the seven days with joy.24 For (C1)Hezekiah king of Judah had contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep, and the princes had contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep; and (C2)a large number of priests consecrated themselves.25 All the assembly of Judah rejoiced, with the priests and the Levites and (C1)all the assembly that came from Israel, both the strangers who came from the land of Israel and those living in Judah.26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem, because there was nothing like this in Jerusalem (C1)since the days of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel.27 Then (C1)the Levitical priests stood and (C2)blessed the people; and their voice was heard and their prayer came to (C3)His holy dwelling place, to heaven.
Psalms 86
Chapter 86
Pleading and Trust.
1 (C1)Incline Your ear, LORD, and answer me;
For I am (C2)afflicted and needy.
2 (C1)Protect my (F1)soul, for I am (C2)godly;
You my God, save Your servant who (C3)trusts in You.
3 Be (C1)gracious to me, Lord,
For (C2)I call upon You all day long.
4 Make the soul of Your servant joyful,
For to You, Lord, (C1)I lift up my soul.
5 For You, Lord, are (C1)good, and (C2)ready to forgive,
And (C3)abundant in mercy to all who call upon You.
6 (C1)Listen, LORD, to my prayer;
And give Your attention to the sound of my pleading!
7 On (C1)the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
For (C2)You will answer me.
8 There is (C1)no one like You among the gods, Lord,
Nor are there any works (C2)like Yours.
9 (C1)All nations whom You have made will come and worship before You, Lord,
And they will glorify Your name.
10 For You are (C1)great, and You (C2)do (F1)wondrous deeds;
You alone (C3)are God.
11 (C1)Teach me Your way, LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
(C2)Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will (C1)give thanks to You, Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forever.
13 For Your graciousness toward me is great,
And You have (C1)saved my soul from the (F1)depths of (F2)Sheol.
14 God, arrogant men have (C1)risen up against me,
And a gang of violent men have sought my (F1)life,
And they have not set You before them.
15 But You, Lord, are a (C1)compassionate and gracious God,
Slow to anger and abundant in mercy and (F1)truth.
16 (C1)Turn to me, and be gracious to me;
(C2)Grant Your strength to Your servant,
And save the (C3)son of Your maidservant.
17 (C1)Show me a sign of good,
That those who hate me may (C2)see it and be ashamed,
Because You, LORD, (C3)have helped me and comforted me.
John 19:16-42
Chapter 19
16 So he then (C1)handed Him over to them to be crucified.
17 (C1)They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, (F1)(C2)carrying His own cross, to the place called (C3)the Place of a Skull, which (C4)in (F2)Hebrew is called, Golgotha.18 There they crucified Him, and with Him (C1)two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.19 Now Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written: "(C1)JESUS THE NAZARENE, (C2)THE KING OF THE JEWS."20 Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written (C1)in (F1)Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek.21 So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, '(C1)The King of the Jews'; rather, write that He said, 'I am (C1)King of the Jews.'"22 Pilate answered, "(C1)What I have written, I have written."
23 Then (C1)the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made (C2)four parts: a part to each soldier, and the (F1)tunic also; but the tunic was seamless, woven (F2)in one piece.24 So they said to one another, "(C1)Let's not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be." (C2)This happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "THEY (C3)DIVIDED MY GARMENTS AMONG THEMSELVES, AND THEY CAST (F1)LOTS FOR MY CLOTHING." Therefore the soldiers did these things.
25 (C1)Now beside the cross of Jesus stood (C2)His mother, His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and (C3)Mary Magdalene.26 So when Jesus saw His mother, and (C1)the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He (*)said to His mother, "(C2)Woman, behold, your son!"27 Then He (*)said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her into (C1)his own household.
28 After this, Jesus, (C1)knowing that all things had already been accomplished, (C2)in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, (*)said, "(C3)I am thirsty."29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so (C1)they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "(C1)It is finished!" And He bowed His head and (C2)gave up His spirit.
Care of the Body of Jesus
31 Now then, since it was (C1)the day of preparation, to prevent (C2)the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath ((F1)for that Sabbath was a (C3)high day), the Jews requested of Pilate that their legs be broken, and the bodies be taken away.32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man, and of the other who was (C1)crucified with Him;33 but after they came to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.34 Yet one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately (C1)blood and water came out.35 And he who has seen has (C1)testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.36 For these things took place (C1)so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "(C2)NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE (F1)BROKEN."37 And again another Scripture says, "(C1)THEY WILL LOOK AT HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED."
38 Now (C1)after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a (C2)secret one for (C3)fear of the (F1)Jews, requested of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.39 (C1)Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, (C2)bringing a (F1)mixture of (C3)myrrh and aloes, about a (F2)(C4)hundred litras weight.40 So they took the body of Jesus and (C1)bound it in (C2)linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden was a (C1)new tomb (C2)in which no one had yet been laid.42 Therefore because of the Jewish day of (C1)preparation, since the tomb was (C2)nearby, they laid Jesus there.
