2 Chronicles 9

Chapter 9

Visit of the Queen of Sheba

1 (C1)Now when the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with riddles. She had a very large entourage, with camels carrying balsam oil and a large amount of gold and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about everything that was on her heart.2 Solomon (F1)answered all her questions; nothing was hidden from Solomon which he did not (F2)explain to her.3 When the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house which he had built,4 the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his ministers and their attire, his cupbearers and their attire, and (F1)his stairway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, she was breathless.5 Then she said to the king, "It was a true (F1)story that I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom.6 "But I did not believe their (F1)stories until I came and my own eyes saw it all. And behold, not even half of the greatness of your wisdom was reported to me. You have surpassed the report that I heard.7 "How (F1)blessed are your men, how (F1)blessed are these servants of yours, who stand before you continually and hear your wisdom!8 "Blessed be the LORD your God who delighted in you, (C1)setting you on His throne as king for the LORD your God; (C2)because your God loved Israel, establishing them forever, He made you king over them, to carry out justice and righteousness."9 Then she gave the king (F1)120 talents of gold and a very great amount of balsam oil and precious stones; there had never been balsam oil like that which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.

10 The servants of Huram and the servants of Solomon (C1)who brought gold from Ophir, also brought algum trees and precious stones.11 From the algum trees the king made steps to the house of the LORD and for the king's palace, and lyres and harps for the singers; and nothing like them was seen before in the land of Judah.

12 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba her every desire, whatever she requested, besides gifts equal to what she had brought to the king. Then she turned and went to her own land with her servants.

Solomon's Wealth and Power

13 (C1)Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was (F1)666 talents of gold,14 besides what the traders and merchants brought; and all (C1)the kings of Arabia and the governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.15 King Solomon made two hundred large shields of beaten gold, (F1)using six hundred shekels of beaten gold on each large shield.16 He made three hundred shields of beaten gold, (F1)using three hundred shekels of gold on each shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

17 Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.18 There were six steps to the throne and a footstool in gold attached to the throne, and (F1)arms (F2)on each side of the seat, and two lions standing beside the (F1)arms.19 Twelve lions were standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other; nothing like it was made for any other kingdom.20 All King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; silver was not considered (F1)valuable in the days of Solomon.21 (C1)For the king had ships which went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram; once every three years the ships of Tarshish came bringing gold and silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.

22 (C1)So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in wealth and wisdom.23 And all the kings of the earth were seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart.24 (C1)They were bringing, each of them his gift: articles of silver and gold, garments, weapons, balsam oil, horses, and mules, so much year by year.

25 Now Solomon had (C1)four thousand stalls for horses and chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, and he stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.26 (C1)He was ruler over all the kings from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, and as far as the border of Egypt.27 (C1)And the king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the (F1)lowland.28 (C1)And they were bringing horses for Solomon from Egypt and from all countries.

29 (C1)Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, from the first to the last, (C2)are they not written in the (F1)records of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of (F2)Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat?30 (C1)Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel for forty years.

Death of Solomon

31 And Solomon (F1)lay down with his fathers and was buried in (C1)the city of his father David; and his son Rehoboam reigned in his place.

Psalms 74

Chapter 74

An Appeal against the Devastation of the Land by the Enemy.

A (FA)Maskil of Asaph.

1 God, why have You (C1)rejected us forever?
Why does Your anger (C2)smoke against the (C3)sheep of Your (F1)pasture?

2 Remember Your congregation, which You (C1)purchased of old,
Which You have (C2)redeemed to be the (C3)tribe of Your inheritance;
And this Mount (C4)Zion, where You have dwelt.

3 (F1)Step toward the (F2)(C1)irreparable ruins;
The enemy (C2)has damaged everything in the sanctuary.

4 Your adversaries have (C1)roared in the midst of Your meeting place;
They have set up their (C2)own signs as (C3)signs.

5 It (F1)seems like one bringing up
His (C1)axe into a (F2)forest of trees.

6 And now they break down (F1)all its (C1)carved work
With axe and hammers.

7 They have (F1)(C1)burned Your sanctuary (F2)to the ground;
They have (C2)defiled the dwelling place of Your name.

8 They (C1)said in their heart, "Let's (F1)completely (F2)subdue them."
They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

9 We do not see our (C1)signs;
There is (C2)no longer any prophet,
Nor is there anyone among us who knows (C3)how long.

10 How long, God, will the enemy (C1)taunt You?
Shall the enemy (C2)treat Your name disrespectfully forever?

11 Why (C1)do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand?
Extend it from Your chest and (C2)destroy them!

12 Yet God is (C1)my King from long ago,
Who performs acts of salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 (F1)You (C1)divided the sea by Your strength;
(F1)You (C2)broke the heads of the (C3)sea monsters (F2)in the waters.

14 (F1)You crushed the heads of (F2)(C1)Leviathan;
You gave him as food for the (F3)creatures (C2)of the wilderness.

15 (F1)You (C1)broke open springs and torrents;
(F1)You (C2)dried up ever-flowing streams.

16 Yours is the day, Yours also is the night;
(F1)You have (C1)prepared the (F2)light and the sun.

17 (F1)You have (C1)established all the boundaries of the earth;
(F1)You have (F2)created (C2)summer and winter.

18 Remember this, (F1)LORD, that the enemy has (C1)taunted You,
And a (C2)foolish people has treated Your name disrespectfully.

19 Do not give the soul of Your (C1)turtledove to the wild animal;
(C2)Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.

20 Consider the (C1)covenant;
For the (C2)dark places of the land are full of the places of violence.

21 May the (C1)oppressed person not return dishonored;
May the (C2)afflicted and the needy praise Your name.

22 Arise, God, and (C1)plead Your own cause;
Remember (F1)how the (C2)foolish person taunts You all day long.

23 Do not forget the voice of Your (C1)adversaries,
The (C2)uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually.

John 10:22-42

Chapter 10

22 At that time the (F1)Feast of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem;23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple area, in the portico of (C1)Solomon.24 (C1)The Jews then surrounded Him and began saying to Him, "How long (F1)will You keep us in suspense? If You are the (F2)Christ, tell us (C2)plainly."25 Jesus answered them, "(C1)I told you, and you do not believe; (C2)the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me.26 "But you do not believe, because (C1)you are not of My sheep.27 "My sheep (C1)listen to My voice, and (C2)I know them, and they follow Me;28 and I give them (C1)eternal life, and they will never perish; and (C2)no one will snatch them out of My hand.29 "(F1)My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.30 "(C1)I and the Father are (F1)one."

31 The Jews (C1)picked up stones again to stone Him.32 Jesus replied to them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"33 The Jews answered Him, "We are not stoning You for a good work, but for (C1)blasphemy; and because You, being a man, (C2)make Yourself out to be God."34 Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in (C1)your (C2)Law: '(C3)I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'?35 "If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be nullified),36 are you saying of Him whom the Father (C1)sanctified and (C2)sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, '(C3)I am the Son of God'?37 "(C1)If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe Me, believe (C1)the works, so that you may (F1)know and understand that (C2)the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."39 Therefore (C1)they were seeking again to arrest Him, and (C2)He eluded their grasp.

40 And He went away (C1)again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He stayed there.41 Many came to Him and were saying, "While John performed no (C1)sign, yet (C2)everything John said about this Man was true."42 And (C1)many believed in Him there.
