2 Chronicles 7
Chapter 7
The Shekinah Glory
1 (C1)Now when Solomon had finished praying, (C2)fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the house.2 (C1)And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled the LORD'S house.3 All the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the LORD upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the LORD, saying, "(C1)Certainly He is good, certainly His faithfulness is everlasting."
Sacrifices Offered
4 (C1)Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the LORD.5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.6 The priests stood at their posts, and (C1)the Levites also, with the musical instruments for the LORD, which King David had made for giving praise to the LORD—"for His faithfulness is everlasting"—whenever David gave praise through their (F1)ministry; (C2)the priests on the other side blew trumpets and all Israel was standing.
7 (C1)Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard that was before the house of the LORD, for he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings there, because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to contain the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat.
The Feast of Dedication
8 So (C1)Solomon held the feast at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly that came from the entrance of Hamath to the (C2)brook of Egypt.9 And on the eighth day they held (C1)a solemn assembly, because they held the dedication of the altar for seven days, and the feast for seven days.10 Then on the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and happy in heart because of the goodness that the LORD had shown to David, to Solomon, and to His people Israel.
God's Promise and Warning
11 (C1)So Solomon finished the house of the LORD and the king's palace, and successfully completed everything that (F1)he had planned on doing in the house of the LORD and in his palace.
12 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, "I have heard your prayer and (C1)have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.13 "(C1)If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people,14 (C1)and My people (F1)who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.15 "(C1)Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the (F1)prayer offered in this place.16 "For (C1)now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there (F1)always.17 "As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, to do according to everything that I have commanded you, and keep My statutes and My ordinances,18 then I will establish your royal throne as I covenanted with your father David, saying, '(F1)(C1)You shall not lack a man to be ruler in Israel.'
19 "(C1)But if you turn away and abandon My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,20 (C1)then I will uproot (F1)you from My land which I have given (F2)you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight; and I will make it (C2)a proverb and an object of scorn among all peoples.21 "As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, '(C1)Why has the LORD done these things to this land and to this house?'22 "And they will say, 'Because (C1)they abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods, and worshiped and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.'"
Malachi 4
Chapter 4
Final Admonition
1 "(F1)For behold, the day is coming, (C1)burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be (C2)chaff; and the day that is coming will (C3)set them ablaze," says the LORD of armies, "so that it will leave them neither root nor branches.2 "But for you who (F1)fear My name, the (C1)sun of righteousness will rise with (C2)healing in its wings; and you will go forth and (C3)frolic like calves from the stall.3 "And you will (C1)crush the wicked underfoot, for they will be (C2)ashes under the soles of your feet (C3)on the day (F1)that I am preparing," says the LORD of armies.
4 "(C1)Remember the Law of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.
5 "Behold, I am going to send you (C1)Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.6 "He will (C1)turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and (C2)strike the land with complete destruction."
John 9:24-41
Chapter 9
24 So for a second time they summoned the man who had been blind, and said to him, "(C1)Give glory to God; we know that (C2)this Man is a sinner."25 He then answered, "Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see."26 So they said to him, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?"27 He answered them, "(C1)I told you already and you did not (C2)listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?"28 They spoke abusively to him and said, "You are His disciple, but (C1)we are disciples of Moses.29 "We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this Man, (C1)we do not know where He is from."30 The man answered and said to them, "Well, here is the amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes!31 "We know that (C1)God does not listen to sinners; but if someone is (F1)God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him.32 "(F1)Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.33 "(C1)If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing."34 They answered him, "(C1)You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?" So they (F1)(C2)put him out.
Jesus Affirms His Deity
35 Jesus heard that they had (F1)(C1)put him out, and upon finding him, He said, "Do you believe in the (C2)Son of Man?"36 He answered (F1)by saying, "And (C1)who is He, (F2)Sir, that I may believe in Him?"37 Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him, and (C1)He is the One who is talking with you."38 And he said, "I believe, Lord." And he (C1)worshiped Him.39 And Jesus said, "(C1)For judgment I came into this world, so that (C2)those who do not see may see, and (C3)those who see may become blind."40 Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him, "(C1)We are not blind too, are we?"41 Jesus said to them, "(C1)If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now that you maintain, '(C2)We see,' your sin remains.
