Chapter 6
Solomon's Dedication of the Temple
1 (C1)Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick darkness.
2 "I have built You a lofty house,
And a place for Your dwelling forever."
3 Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.4 He said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and fulfilled it with His hands, saying,5 'Since the day that I brought My people from the land of Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, so that My name might be there, nor did I choose a man to be the leader over My people Israel;6 but (C1)I have chosen Jerusalem so that My name might be there, and I (C2)have chosen David to be over My people Israel.'7 "(C1)Now it was (F1)in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.8 "But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was (F1)in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was (F1)in your heart.9 'Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who (F1)will be born to you, he shall build the house for My name.'10 "Now the LORD has fulfilled His word which He spoke; for I have risen in place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD (F1)promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.11 "There I have placed the ark (C1)in which is the covenant of the LORD, which He made with the sons of Israel."
Solomon's Prayer of Dedication
12 Then he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.13 (C1)For Solomon had made a bronze platform, (F1)five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the courtyard; and he stood on it, (C2)knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven.14 He said, "LORD, God of Israel, (C1)there is no god like You in heaven or on earth, (C2)keeping (F1)Your covenant and (F1)Your faithfulness to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart;15 (C1)You who have kept with Your servant, my father David, that which You (F1)promised him; You have spoken with Your mouth and have fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.16 "Now then, LORD, God of Israel, keep to Your servant David, my father, that which You (F1)promised him, saying, '(F2)(C1)You shall not lack a man to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay attention to their way, to walk in My Law as you have walked before Me.'17 "Now then, LORD, God of Israel, let Your word be confirmed which You have spoken to Your servant David.
18 "But (C1)will God really dwell with mankind on the earth? Behold, (C2)heaven and the (F1)highest heaven cannot contain You; how much less this house which I have built!19 "Nevertheless, turn Your attention to the prayer of Your servant and to his plea, LORD, my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays before You;20 that Your (C1)eye will be open toward this house day and night, toward (C2)the place of which You have said that You would put Your name there, to listen to the prayer which Your servant shall pray toward this place.21 "Listen to the pleadings of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place; hear from Your dwelling place, from heaven; (C1)hear and forgive.
22 "If someone sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and he comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this house,23 then hear from heaven and take action and judge Your servants, (F1)(C1)punishing the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by (F2)repaying him according to his righteousness.
24 "If Your people Israel are (F1)defeated before an enemy because (C1)they have sinned against You, and they return to You and praise Your name, and pray and plead before You in this house,25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You have given to them and to their fathers.
26 "When the (C1)heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and praise Your name, and turn from their sin when You afflict them,27 then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel; indeed, (C1)teach them the good way in which they are to walk. And provide rain on Your land, which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.
28 "If there is a (C1)famine in the land, if there is a plague, if there is blight or mildew, if there is locust or grasshopper, if their enemies besiege them in the land of their (F1)cities, whatever plague or whatever sickness there is,29 whatever prayer or plea is made by anyone or by all Your people Israel, (F1)each knowing his own affliction and his own pain, and spreading his hands toward this house,30 then hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know—(C1)for You alone know the hearts of the sons of mankind—31 so that they may (F1)fear You, to walk in Your ways (F2)as long as they live in the land which You have given to our fathers.
32 "Also concerning (C1)the foreigner who is not from Your people Israel, when he comes from a far country on account of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray toward this house,33 then hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, and (F1)fear You as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that (F2)this house which I have built is (C1)called by Your name.
34 "When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way You send them, and they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the house which I have built for Your name,35 then hear from heaven their prayer and their pleading, and maintain their cause.
36 "When they sin against You ((C1)for there is no one who does not sin), and You are angry with them and turn them over to an enemy, so that (F1)they take them away captive to a land far off or near,37 if they (F1)take it to heart in the land where they are taken captive, and repent and plead to You in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong and have acted wickedly';38 (C1)if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been taken captive, and pray toward their land which You have given to their fathers and the city which You have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Your name,39 then hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, their prayer and pleadings, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have sinned against You.
40 "Now, my God, please, (C1)let Your eyes be open and (C2)Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.
41 "(C1)Now then arise, LORD God, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might; let Your priests, LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let Your godly ones rejoice in what is good.
42 "LORD God, do not turn away the face of Your anointed; (C1)remember Your faithfulness to Your servant David."
Malachi 2:17-3:18
Chapter 2
17 You have (C1)wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, "How have we wearied Him?" In that you say, "(C2)Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He (C3)delights in them," or, "(C4)Where is the God of (C5)justice?"
Chapter 3
The Purifier
1 "(C1)Behold, I am sending (C2)My (F1)messenger, and he will (C3)clear a way before Me. And the Lord, whom you are seeking, will suddenly come to His temple; (F2)and the (F1)(C4)messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of armies.2 "But who can (C1)endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a (C2)refiner's fire, and like launderer's soap.3 "And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will (C1)purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may (C2)present to the LORD (F1)offerings in righteousness.4 "Then the (F1)offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be (C1)pleasing to the LORD as in the (C2)days of old, and as in former years.
5 "Then I will come near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the (C1)sorcerers, the (C2)adulterers, against those who (C3)swear falsely, those who (F1)oppress the (C4)wage earner in his wages or the (C5)widow or the (F2)orphan, and those who turn away the (C6)stranger from justice and do not (F3)fear Me," says the LORD of armies.6 "For (F1)I, the LORD, (C1)do not change; therefore you, the sons of Jacob, have not come to an end.
7 "From the (C1)days of your fathers you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept them. (C2)Return to Me, and I will return to you," says the LORD of armies. "But you say, 'How shall we return?'
You Have Robbed God
8 "Would anyone rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How have we robbed You?' In (C1)tithes and (F1)offerings.9 "You are (C1)cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the entire nation of you!10 "(C1)Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and put Me to the test now in this," says the LORD of armies, "if I do not (C2)open for you the windows of heaven and (C3)pour out for you a blessing until (F1)(C4)it overflows.11 "Then I will rebuke the (C1)devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruit of your ground; nor will the vine in the field prove fruitless to you," says the LORD of armies.12 "(C1)All the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a (C2)delightful land," says the LORD of armies.
13 "Your words have been (F1)arrogant against Me," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against You?'14 "You have said, 'It is (C1)pointless to serve God; and what (C2)benefit is it for us that we have done what He required, and that we have walked in mourning before the LORD of armies?15 'So now we (C1)call the arrogant blessed; not only are the doers of wickedness built up, but they also put God to the test and (C2)escape punishment.'"
The Book of Remembrance
16 Then those who (F1)feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD (C1)listened attentively and heard it, and a (C2)book of remembrance was written before Him for those who (F1)fear the LORD and esteem His name.17 "And they will be (C1)Mine," says the LORD of armies, "on the (C2)day that I (F1)prepare My (C3)own possession, and I will have compassion for them just as a man (C4)has compassion for his own son who serves him."18 So you will again (C1)distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.
John 9:1-23
Chapter 9
Healing the Man Born Blind
1 As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth.2 And His disciples asked Him, "(C1)Rabbi, who sinned, (C2)this man or his (C3)parents, that he would be born blind?"3 Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was (C1)so that the works of God might be displayed in him.4 "We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me (C1)as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.5 "While I am in the world, I am (C1)the Light of the world."6 When He had said this, He (C1)spit on the ground, and made mud from the saliva, and applied the mud to his eyes,7 and said to him, "Go, wash in (C1)the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he left and (C2)washed, and (C3)came back seeing.8 So the neighbors, and those who previously saw (F1)him as a beggar, were saying, "Is this not the one who used to (C1)sit and beg?"9 Others were saying, "This is he," still others were saying, "No, but he is like him." (F1)The man himself kept saying, "I am the one."10 So they were saying to him, "How then were your eyes opened?"11 He answered, "The Man who is called Jesus made mud, and spread it on my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to (C1)Siloam and wash'; so I went away and washed, and I received sight."12 And they said to him, "Where is He?" He (*)said, "I do not know."
Controversy over the Man
13 They (*)brought (F1)the man who was previously blind to the Pharisees.14 (C1)Now it was a Sabbath on the day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.15 (C1)Then the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, "He applied mud to my eyes, and I washed, and I see."16 Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, "This Man is not from God, because He (C1)does not keep the Sabbath." But others were saying, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such (F1)(C2)signs?" And (C3)there was dissension among them.17 So they (*)said (C1)again to the man who was blind, "What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?" And he said, "He is a (C2)prophet."
18 (C1)The Jews then did not believe it about him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight,19 and they questioned them, saying, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?"20 His parents then answered and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;21 but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself."22 His parents said this because they (C1)were afraid of the (F1)Jews; for the Jews (C2)had already reached the decision that if anyone confessed Him to be (F2)Christ, (C3)he was to be excommunicated from the synagogue.23 It was for this reason that his parents said, "(C1)He is of age; ask him."<
