1 This is the list of the Israelites, the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter to do with the divisions that were on rotated military duty each month throughout[a] the year. For the Reubenites, Eliezer son of Zichri was the chief official;

Those were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.(b)
23 David didn't count the men aged 20 or under, for the Lord had said He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of heaven.(c) 24 Joab son of Zeruiah began to count them, but he didn't complete it. There was wrath against Israel because of this census,(d) and the number was not entered in the Historical Record[d] of King David.
25 Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the king's storehouses.

Hushai(i) the Archite was the king's friend. 34 After Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah,(j) then Abiathar.(k) Joab was the commander of the king's army.(l)
Chapter 28
David Commissions Solomon to Build the Temple
1 David assembled all the leaders of Israel in Jerusalem:(a) the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king's service, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials, the fighting men,(b) and all the brave warriors. 2 Then King David rose to his feet and said, "Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the Lord 's covenant(c) and as a footstool(d) for our God. I had made preparations to build, 3 but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.'(e)
4 "Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of all my father's household(f) to be king over Israel forever.(g) For He chose Judah as leader,(h) and from the house of Judah, my father's household, and from my father's sons,(i) He was pleased to make me king over all Israel. 5 And out of all my sons(j)—for the Lord has given me many sons—He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord 's kingdom over Israel.(k) 6 He said to me,(l) ‘Your son Solomon is the one who is to build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his father. 7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he perseveres in keeping My commands and My ordinances as he is today.'(m)
8 "So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord , and in the hearing of our God, observe and follow all the commands of the Lord your God so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants forever.
9 "As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind,(n) for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought.(o) If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.(p) 10 Realize now that the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it."(q)
11 Then David gave his son Solomon the plans(r) for the portico(s) of the temple and its buildings, treasuries, upper rooms, inner rooms, and a room for the mercy seat.(t) 12 The plans contained everything he had in mind[a](u) for the courts of the Lord 's house, all the surrounding chambers, the treasuries(v) of God's house, and the treasuries for what is dedicated. 13 Also included were plans for the divisions of the priests and the Levites; all the work of service in the Lord 's house; all the articles of service of the Lord 's house; 14 the weight of gold for all the articles for every kind of service; the weight of all the silver articles for every kind of service; 15 the weight of the gold lampstands(w) and their gold lamps, including the weight of each lampstand and its lamps; the weight of each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the service of each lampstand; 16 the weight of gold for each table for the rows of the bread of the Presence and the silver for the silver tables; 17 the pure gold for the forks, sprinkling basins, and pitchers; the weight of each gold dish; the weight of each silver bowl; 18 the weight of refined gold for the altar of incense;(x) and the plans for the chariot of[b](y) the gold cherubim that spread out their wings and cover the ark of the Lord 's covenant.(z)
19 David concluded, "By the Lord 's hand on me, He enabled me to understand everything in writing, all the details of the plan."[c]
20 Then David said to his son Solomon, "Be strong and courageous,(aa) and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He won't leave you or forsake you(ab) until all the work for the service of the Lord 's house is finished. 21 Here are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of God's house.(ac) Every willing man of any skill(ad) will be at your disposal for the work, and the leaders and all the people are at your every command."

Chapter 12
Judah's Security
1 An Oracle
The word of the
Lord
concerning Israel.
A declaration of the
Lord
,
who stretched out the heavens,(a)
laid the foundation of the earth,(b)
and formed the spirit of man within him.
2 "Look, I will make Jerusalem a cup that causes staggering(c) for the peoples who surround the city. The siege against Jerusalem will also involve Judah. 3 On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who try to lift it will injure themselves severely when all the nations of the earth gather against her.(d) 4 On that day"—this is the Lord 's declaration—"I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness.(e) I will keep a watchful eye on(f) the house of Judah but strike all the horses of the nations with blindness. 5 Then each of the leaders of Judah will think to himself: The residents of Jerusalem are my strength through the Lord of Hosts, their God. 6 On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves; they will consume all the peoples around them on the right and the left, while Jerusalem continues to be inhabited on its site, in Jerusalem. 7 The Lord will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of David's house and the glory of Jerusalem's residents may not be greater than that of Judah. 8 On that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that on that day the one who is weakest among them will be like David on that day, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the Lord , before them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
Mourning for the Pierced One
10 "Then I will pour out a spirit[a](g) of grace and prayer on the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, and they will look at[b] Me whom they pierced. They will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly for Him as one weeps for a firstborn.(h) 11 On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 The land will mourn, every family by itself: the family of David's house by itself and their women by themselves; the family of Nathan's[c](i) house by itself and their women by themselves; 13 the family of Levi's house by itself and their women by themselves; the family of Shimei[d](j) by itself and their women by themselves; 14 all the remaining families, every family by itself, and their women by themselves.
John 7:1-24
Chapter 7
The Unbelief of Jesus' Brothers
1 After this, Jesus traveled in Galilee,(a) since He did not want to travel in Judea(b) because the Jews(c) were trying to kill Him.(d) 2 The Jewish Festival of Tabernacles[a][b](e) was near, 3 so His brothers(f) said to Him, "Leave here and go to Judea so Your disciples can see Your works(g) that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he's seeking public recognition. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world." 5 (For not even His brothers believed in Him.)
6 Jesus told them, "My time(h) has not yet arrived, but your time is always at hand. 7 The world cannot hate(i) you, but it does hate Me because I testify about it—that its deeds are evil. 8 Go up to the festival yourselves. I'm not going up to the festival yet,[c] because My time has not yet fully come." 9 After He had said these things, He stayed in Galilee.
Jesus at the Festival of Tabernacles
10 After His brothers had gone up to the festival, then He also went up, not openly but secretly. 11 The Jews were looking for Him at the festival and saying, "Where is He?" 12 And there was a lot of discussion about Him among the crowds. Some were saying, "He's a good(j) man." Others were saying, "No, on the contrary, He's deceiving(k) the people." 13 Still, nobody was talking publicly about Him because they feared the Jews.
14 When the festival was already half over, Jesus went up into the temple complex(l) and began to teach. 15 Then the Jews were amazed and said, "How does He know the Scriptures,(m) since He hasn't been trained?"
16 Jesus answered them, "My teaching isn't Mine but is from the One who sent Me.(n) 17 If anyone wants to do His will,(o) he will understand whether the teaching is from God or if I am speaking on My own. 18 The one who speaks for himself seeks his own glory.(p) But He who seeks the glory(q) of the One who sent Him is true,(r) and there is no unrighteousness in Him.(s) 19 Didn't Moses(t) give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law!(u) Why do you want to kill Me?"
20 "You have a demon!" the crowd responded. "Who wants to kill You?"
21 "I did one work,(v) and you are all amazed," Jesus answered. 22 "Consider this: Moses has given you circumcision(w)—not that it comes from Moses but from the fathers(x)—and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.(y) 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath(z) so that the law of Moses(aa) won't be broken, are you angry at Me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging(ab) according to outward appearances; rather judge according to righteous judgment."
